What are the issues faced by expats when applying for the Thailand Pass?

It appears as if the Thailand Pass application form (at least on my smartphone, site would come up at all on my laptop) has several design problems...

1. One can't go back a page nor save the file to be continued later. Despite there being other hassles, Tanzania visa application form Immigration permits this

2. Vaccination certificate presumes such a document from one's home country includes one's passport number. In my home province of Alberta in Canada this is not the case. And I question how many countries do this - maybe national ID number, but we don't have that either.

It also presumes one has two separate documents for two doses of vaccination (our documents join the two), plus another one with a QR code. Well guess what, my home province has had three different versions in 3 months, and only two of them have QR codes.

I did ask my doctor to sign a document with every tidbit of information other than my blood type and zodiac sign. But no QR code. QR code has no passport #. Could this be any more complicated?

3. It asks for everything at once, but one doesn't get PCR test results until often the same day of travel (because it can take 24-48 hours to get results but it has to be taken no earlier than 72 hours before)

It is like a juggling act at frenetic speed figuring out strategy. Strikes me as chaotic and bureaucratic. And it might not even work. Or am I mental case (soon becoming one with the concentration and time this is taking). Imagine if I also had a job and family!

Additionally, I read it would take seven days, but apparently what was meant was seven working days to process all the documents, *after* one has one's ASQ reservation.

I have already wasted on $173 PCR test because I thought I could just jump on a plane with proof of vaccination. Now I am discovering that it is much slower and more complicated than I expected. Can't do it too soon. Can't do it too late. It's like applying to study at university just to cross a border. Reminds me of Cambodia where they want black ink instead of red ink. Etc etc.

No wonder most people are staying home.

TLDR : Answer Summary
This post highlights the frustrations encountered when applying for the Thailand Pass, particularly the difficulties with the online application process, vaccination certificate requirements, and the timing of PCR test results. The author mentions issues such as the inability to save progress on the application form and the chaotic nature of the requirements, likening the process to applying for university admission. Comments from other users discuss related experiences and clarify that the Thailand Pass is akin to a travel authorization rather than a visa.

Thailand Pass is not a kind of visa application. It's more like the US ESTA or Canadian eTA.

Speaking of pens bring blue ink for Thailand. I have had my signature questioned by government entities because it was in black ink and they asked me to resign in blue ink.

They want blue ink to insure that this is not a photocopied signature (the rule comes from the era when color copies didn't exist)

Agree that from the standpoint of the customer this seems incredibly petty, but if you are an immigration officer you spend your workday looking to see if things are signed and the easiest way to do that is to look for the blue ink on a form printed in black ink.

Similar situation with passport copies. They want passport copies made in the portrait orientation so that they are readable in that orientation. What's the big deal? If it's not readable in one direction just rotate it 90 degrees and now it's readable. Again, easy enough for us to do because we only see our documentation, but if you spent your entire day at a desk looking at passport copies you would want them to be done in a way that makes it easier to do your job. Even something so simple as not having to rotate pages.

A lot of the seemingly petty requirements have a practical basis in making their jobs easier. And of course, we do it that way because they have something we want and we can't take our business elsewhere. ;-)
