Which consulate will oversee my family's visa application to Thailand, and how will our fluctuating bank account impact our chances?

Sorry if I sound like an idiot, but I’ve already emailed the Los Angeles Thai consulate & the answer didn’t make sense to me. So here goes. My husband holds a Finnish passport, I have a US passport. We live in Hawaii (USA) He is a content creator & makes a living online. We are going to be applying online with him as the person applying, me & our 3 children as his dependents. My first question is: Which consulate will be overseeing my application process? Is it Los Angeles?

My second question is, whether our bank account situation will work… September had 35k, October dipped to 4k, November 49k, & December will be 50-100k… Would like to apply asap, like end of December or early January latest… Do you think they’ll deny because of October? Should I wait till early February to apply?

If they reject due to not having the bank account having enough funds for long enough, will we have to pay the whole 2k (5 people) again when we reapply?

Thank you for all your help!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the application process for a visa to Thailand, specifically regarding which consulate will oversee their application, how the fluctuations in their bank account may affect their chances of approval, and the implications of reapplication fees in case of denial. The community responses clarify that the Los Angeles consulate will handle the application and that short-term fluctuations in bank account balances may not significantly affect approval, provided the overall funds meet requirements. However, it is recommended that the family apply as soon as possible unless more stable funds are available.

Your nearest consulate (probably LA) will handle your application. The dip in your account might cause some questions, but if your overall funds meet the requirement and you explain it, you should be fine. Waiting a bit for steadier funds helps, but applying now is okay. If rejected, you’ll likely pay the fees again when reapplying.

I just did this through the LA consulate. If you are in Hawaii, you apply at the LA consulate. You need to apply for the main DTV holder first (your husband). Once his DTV gets issued, you and the kids apply as dependents. LA Consulate is very fast. You will get a decision within 3 business days, I predict.

Yes, I did

ohhhh ok I see, so we would only pay for the one application, then if it gets approved, the rest of us apply…. Thank you!

Worst case scenario, you only lose one application fee. That's because your husband has to apply and receive his DTV before anyone else can apply. One of the required items to apply for a dependent DTV is the already issued DTV of the primary person.

For the US Consulates and Embassy, they usually want to see 3 months of bank statements, but only care what the balance is on the most recent one.

Thank you so much! I’m so glad I asked this group lol yes losing just one app fee is waaaayyy better than 5 haha 🙃 ok great thank you! I really hope that’s the case with the LA consulate, regarding the bank statements …. I’ve heard that one in particular is really strict on the 3 consecutive months 😬

Anonymous participant Are you able to find any past reports from that consulate in the group?

are any other consulates able to approve with only one or two of the three months holding over the 500k baht? I keep getting conflicting answers from everyone

Typically the US consulates don't ask for a seasoning period. Your husband the main DTV Holder will apply and once approved then the spousal and dependent visas can be applied for referencing the main holders Visa number. A strong bank balance to support the family with a sponsorship letter will go a long way to show financial Independence and stability. When you select your current location on the evisa portal, your application will be directed to the consulate with jurisdiction over that area.

Washington DC recently said that the amount of US $

is NEEDED for each of the 3 months of bank account statements submitted for the DTV visa.

It was noted in a recent Post by a forum member as a WARNING to those applying for the DTV visa.

@James *******
I guess the OP will need to research the LA consulate position on seasoning.

thank you! That all makes perfect sense.

Can you tell us what their answer was, so we can try to make sense of it? The last I heard, U.S. consulates only require funds to be present the day of application.

the exact answer was “hi, yes it would have an effect” that’s it. That’s what the answer was.

Anonymous participant - it sounds clear to me, they are saying that not having the full amount will effect your chance of approval

DTV_BegPecker it’s just so conflicting because even on this post, people say it doesn’t matter if your account goes under in the past 3 months, the current balance is what matters.
Shandy ********
Anonymous participant It doesn't sound clear to me. They should clarify the minimum period if there is one. As it stands, the official application page just states 500K baht, and you'd only find out that they have a minimum waiting period only after you submit your docs. I did some searching, and it does appear to be true that you need to have the 500K equivalent for a continuous three-month period. However, they ask for the ENDING balance, so it might not matter if the balance dips below in one month. BTW, for five people, the balance required is
*****
USD, correct? This is assuming
*****
USD minimum per person, so you'd only meet the minimum in December

@Shandy *******
I realllly hope it’s not per person 😭😅
Anonymous ******************
Anonymous participant you need 500k baht per person applying 😞 I am currently applying waiting for approval and then my husband will apply as my dependent once I am approved and the visa agency I am using has told me you need 500k baht per person applying even for children but it can all be in a joint account as long as both parents names are on that joint account

Which consulate, this is the list when you start to apply, it is a pop up screen.

There are no refunds.

@Robert ******
so it sounds like if we deny, we have to pay to apply again 😨
DTV_Be*******
Anonymous participant - However, the primary applicant applies first. Once approved, you then apply for the dependents. So if the primary is rejected, you wouldn’t submit the dependents and therefore not lose the fee money

DTV_BegPecker thankfully 🙏🏽

Anonymous participant does not sound like it, it is correct,

You pay for the application, no matter what the outcome is.

You apply again, you pay for application, no matter what the outcome is.

And so on. so be careful, truthful and honest and make sure the documents are correct.

They want to see the amount they need ฿500k vested for the amount of time in the admission paperwork for the visa in 1 acct

They don’t care what financial gymnastics you do they just want to see ฿500k in 1 bank acct for the vested period of time…if you think you’re smarter than them they will deny your application and you just donated $2k to the Thai govt

Good luck on your financial gymnastics

DTV_Begpacker so funny because I literally started out my post with “sorry if I sound like an idiot”…. Not sure what part of that makes you think that I think I am smarter than them. Weird. Your answer was not helpful at all either.
DTV_Be*******
Good luck I hope you succeed on the first try

If not you will learn a $2k lesson
