I need assistance I have applied but they want bank statements which uploaded I have more then enough money in my account to qualify. But they responded and said I needed a USA bank account and US dollars. I have been living in Europe for the past 6 years just back in the US for a visit right now. I only have an eu account and I transfer everything to euros because it has much less fluctuations then the dollar right now.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is experiencing difficulties with their Thai visa application, as the embassy requires bank statements from a US bank account in US dollars. They have been living in Europe for six years and currently hold a European account. Comments suggest that residence status might be affecting the application, advise checking specific embassy requirements, and recommend applying from a different embassy or providing the requested documentation in US dollars. Several commenters share their own experiences and solutions regarding similar issues.

Before I applied for my DTV I emailed the Thai consulate in HCMC asked for exactly the documents I needed, for Freelance consulting. To my surprise I got a very detailed email back. One of the points was that the minimum 500,000 baht requirement could be in any bank in any currency …..

If you really want the DTV transfer 500k THB min equivalent back to US$ account, follow the rules and what they tell you then send the the statement they require

Haven’t you read the requirements on the Embassy website.

Both who can apply and the needed documentation.

Well, shockingly the instruxtions say nothing about a requirement that you use a US bank account (

It's shocking because the Thai authorities are infallible and would have thought through everything.

Apply from different embassy. In Jakarta I used EU bank account

you need to be in the country you apply and stay there until aproved, can't apply in a country where you not are

@Trikker *********
yes obviously. That’s a given

Your story comes across as fishy. You are saying here “just back in the US for a visit right now”, but on the other page you state you have “moved” back to the USA for half a year

@John ******
whats fishy about a 6 month trip?

I’m sorry, what does that even mean?? I came back for 6 months to visit family and consider where I wanted to move to next. I didn’t think I warned to remain in Europe so I wanted to do some research before making my next move. So I came back to the US to visit family and figure out where I wanted to live long term. I don’t know why that is your business.

just seems strange how your story changes. That is all. I think you need to talk with the embassy, but it sounds like you need to open up a US bank account or fly somewhere else and reapply

Can you ask the embassy if you can open a US bank account and fund it, then?

Really you applied at wrong embassy, while you might be citizen of the US by what you said you are back as little more than a tourist (ie non US resident). You could try getting bank to issue statement/letter with dollar amounts (unlikely) or just write them in yourself but it will be crapshoot at this point if you will get approved.

Unless applying in certain mainly SEA countries you apply where resident, not where your nationality is

Always check each embassy requirements they vary by location

So your legal residence is in the EU? That might be the issue, not sure if the Royal Thai embassy and consulates in the US insist on being a resident in order to apply there. That would be the case in the EU though.

If it's not the case, then you could write a cover letter explaining that you are a EU resident, and provide evidence of that.
