Do I have to apply for a Thai visa in the same currency as my bank account and from the same location I am residing in?

im a bit confused. would appreciate any help:

1. does the currency of the bank account have to be the same as in the place you're applying from?

2. do you physically have to be in the place you're applying from, or is it okay to just be a citizen/resident? ive been a resident in italy for the last year in an education program (not a citizen), but i might want to apply from the US (citizen). however I'm not keen on paying 1000+ on flight tickets home just to leave again...

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on visa application requirements for Thailand, specifically regarding the currency of the bank account associated with the application and whether they must be physically present in the location where they are applying. Responses indicate that the currency does not need to match the location and that while physical presence in the country of application is generally necessary, there are options to apply from nearby countries and specific consulates.

To apply in Italy you need an official permit of residence. You don't have to travel to the US to apply, you could travel to a country close to Thailand and apply via the Thai consulate in that country

why is it not the same as applying from “country close to Thailand”, it’s not like everyone is a resident when applying? I believe you can apply from Italy in the same manner - show proof that you’re in Italy etc

Participant anonyme 984 What you believe is wrong. You cannot apply in some consulates/embassies without being a resident. Typically most consulates/embassies in the EU, if not all, will require legal residency in the country.

It was like this already before the introduction of the e-visas: Embassies/consulates in neighboring countries would allow people without legal residency to apply, but it's always been more of an exception than the rule.

Anonymous participant 984 go and look at the requirements to apply for the DTV on the Italian embassy website. Each embassy sets its own requirements

1/ currency of the bank does not need to be the same as where you are applying from.

2/ you need to physically be in country at time of application and stay until approved.

For eg, I lived in Singapore but flew to apply in vietnam. My bank documents were my Singaporean bank account with well over 500k thb equivalent. I showed proof of location through my entry stamp and vn hotel bookings.

Up, the currency doesn't matter as soon as you have over 500k baht. You MUST apply in the country you are located, in your case apply at the Thai embassy of Rome bur prepare to show up the papers that prove you legally livein Italy
