What is the timeline for applying for a Thai E-visa and how much money is required for a family of four?

Hi everyone, I am from California, USA. Our arrival date to Bangkok, Thailand is March 10, 2026.

I was in the middle of applying for the DTV - but I had to stop midway because the Thai E-visa online site said "Applicant should not apply for visa more than 3 months before the date of intended arrival". So I'm too early as of today. I then should wait until December 15ish.

1) Just curious if anyone applied exactly at the 3 month mark and how long it took? Did it take about 2 weeks?

2) I am first applying then I will have my husband and 2 children (ages 9 and 6) apply as dependents if I am approved. I have been reading mixed comments about needing about $50,000 USD as a family to apply. I was hoping that's not true. Anyone with experience with just $25-$30k USD in their savings account for a family of 4?

I hope it won't take too long to get approved. Thanks so much for any help or advice!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A California expat plans to apply for a Thai DTV visa for their family arriving in March 2026 and seeks advice on application timelines and financial requirements. They need to wait until around mid-December to apply, as the Thai E-visa policy restricts applications to within three months of intended arrival. Community members respond with insights about processing times, financial eligibility, and suggestions to directly contact the consulate for specific advice. There is mixed information regarding whether the financial requirements apply per person or are cumulative for the family.

The closer you get to your entry date, the quicker they process the approval or denial.

make applications and stop before payments.

The application stays there for 14 days to edit.

You read all the official requirements, not what anonymous 666 did read on the Instagram from anonymous 123 who got his knowledge from the latest Youtube movie star.

I’m doing the same and will have husband and 2 kids as well

Some people say they only needed the amount in the bank for one person and others had to have 4 times

You have plenty of time, contact the consulate you’ll be using with the ages of your children and ask them how much.
