Re: Los Angeles Consulate — does the 17k USD in your bank account need to be in there for at least a few months? I’m just transferring the rest of it today and will be applying tomorrow. There wasn’t any requirement online but wanted to see what others experienced. TIA!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation centers around whether the required funds of $17,000 need to remain in a bank account for a specific duration before applying for a Thai visa through the Los Angeles Consulate. Users shared their experiences, noting that while some provided only recent bank statements (within one month), others offered statements covering several months, suggesting flexibility in requirements. It is also noted that a letter of proof of funds might suffice for the application.

No. As a matter of fact, I uploaded Letter Of Proof Of Funds from my Bank. Good luck .

I saw someone post that they got approved out of LA with sending in just 1 month (most current statement to application date). I was recently approved and sent in 4 months since I saw multiple locations asking for a range. They then asked for tax return as well. I think if you send in 1 month, if they want more they’ll reach out and ask for more. Good luck!

- Actually, if you do a search on this page, you can see. I believe LA also has been asking for tax returns (even for soft power applicants). For fun, I looked at the amount requested in Italy (in Euros). When converted to Baht it is only 420,000 baht.

@John ******
lol well the current rate is 14k tho so they can’t have it both ways

@Christopher *******
they can have it any way they want, the visa requirements state MINIMUM/NO LESS THAN 500K

@Christopher *******
- They sure can. Look at the application fees by consulate. Supposed to be 10,000 baht but actual fee is all over.

@John ******
you can’t list it as 500,000 baht equals a wrong number tho. Besides they have approved people with less anyways

- Each Thai embassy sets its local equivalent. It has always been like that. What do you mean they have approve people with less anyway? The LA consulate?
Christopher ********
@John ******
yes someone was approved with only 14k.

I've not seen anything less than 500,000 Thai baht or US $15,000 .

@Christopher *******
- at the LA consulate? Did they show in USD or Baht?
Christopher ********
@John ******
it shows in both but the usd doesn’t equal the baht which is strange

- As I mentioned, this is the norm. Each consulate "creates" its own currency exchange rates. For example, the processing fee is supposed to be 10,000 Baht, but in New Zealand the Embassy charges 2,000 NZ dollars which is equivalent to 39,224 baht. Therefore, if you are applying via the LA consulate you need to either show 16,000 USD (if your bank account is in USD) or 500,000 baht, if you have a Thai Baht account.
