When does the 90-day reporting for a retirement OA visa in Thailand start, and how can I report online?

Just planning ahead ... I arrived in Chiang Mai about 3 weeks after I got my retirement OA visa approved in Los Angeles. My question is: When does the 90 day reporting start? On the date of arrival in Thailand (April 30) or the visa approval date (April 7)? Secondly, can I report on-line and if so, where and how?

I have visited the immigration already to report my arrival and got the initial copy of the Residency certificate. Thanks for the info.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 90-day reporting for a retirement OA visa begins on the day of entry into Thailand, which counts as day one. The first report must be done in person to enter your details into the immigration database. Following that, online reporting is possible if the local immigration office supports it (the Chiang Mai office does). You can report in person from 15 days before up to 7 days after your reporting due date, while online reporting can be done from 15 days before until 7 days before the due date.

95% of the time - Immigration is a snap in Krabi. 90 day report at times 5 minutes - often 2 minutes counting waiting time.

Good luck with CM Immigration - We lived there for a few years and they are the worst I ever seen

I think you have a slightly skewed idea of the actual size of Chiang Mai proper. True it's not smack dab down town but it's hardly no mans land.

As far as getting there early, there are enough thaiz that do queue waiting up there for people for a cheap price. ;)

FWIW: At 8:30AM when the Bangkok immigration office opens there are over 400 people outside the door EVERY day.

It is what it is,

Tried them at Promenada which btw is out in No-mansland - have to come in the middle of the night to get a number at 7am ...

they've gotten better since they moved to the Promenada location.

A 90 day report is due 89 days from the date you enter the country. They count the day you enter as day one. :O As Richard said you have to do one 90 day report in person to get into the data base and then can use the online program IF the immigration office in your area is participating in it, which Chiang Mai IS (y)

Just so we're clear of the windows of opportunity to do 90 day reporting

In person you can do a 90 day report from 15 days before down until 7 days after your due date

Online you can do a 90 day report from 15 days before down until 7 days BEFORE your due date

Mail in you can do a 90 day report as long as you have it post marked 14 days before your report is due.

You don't only know your stuff but you know how to explain it in the clearest of terms. Nice one ☝️

90 days is from the date of entry. The first report has to be in person to enter your details in the database. Thereafter, depending on your local office, in some areas and as an option, you are able to report online but only if the web site is up and running. Reporting can be done between 7 and 14 before the due date and 7 days after I believe.
