When does the 90-day reporting period start after obtaining a retirement visa in Thailand?

Another 90 day reporting question. I came into Thailand via visa exempt Nov 17. Then I applied for the retirement visa and they gave me a 90 day sometime in December. After that I got the one year. My question is when did the 90 day start? When I arrived or when I got the 90 day or the one year. I've gone in person to the Chiang Mai office each time.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 90-day reporting period typically starts from when you arrive in Thailand, especially if you initially entered the country on a visa-exempt basis. However, if you were granted a specific 90-day visa extension upon applying for your retirement visa, this can also influence the start date. It's best to refer to the documentation provided when your extension was issued, as it usually indicates the reporting dates.

There should be a wee slip of paper inside your pp telling you the date to report.

Hi how did you go about having 800 k in the bank for the 60 days plus 15 days was that manageable ? Thanks

Russell If you're applying for your first Non-O from inside Thailand (so you're currently on a visa exempt or tourist visa) the 800k only needs to be in a bank account on the day you apply for it. You keep 15 days left on your current stay to apply for it.

That non-O is valid for 90 days. You then need to apply for a 1 year extension. When you apply for the extension, the 800k baht needs to be in a Thai bank account for 60 days. So from the time you apply for you 1st non-O to when you apply for your yearly extension, the 800k should have already been in your account for 90 days.

A good explanation but I think you’re incorrect when you state ‘every 90 days you have to show immigration your bank book’.

So you know what visa exempt is. William did a good job explaining how to get it in country. But you still have a lot of options. Were I you I'd start with the RTE from your country. I would also join the following FB group as many have asked your question

U would come in on a 30 day on entry, after a week apply for a 90 day non 0 extension, run that down , 1 month before it expires apply for your yearly extension... Retirement visa... On being over 50. Requirements will be. Seasoned 800 thousand baht in a Thai bank account transferred in from your country's bank account. The paperwork after that is not complicated , check conditions online. More or less it's your rent lease or residence in Thailand. U will need covid / insurance for 30 days when u enter, after that u need no insurance unless u want it it's not a condition of the non 0 .I would make sure your here for 4 months to let everything go through. If u leave the country after u get stamp for your yearly extension u leave by getting a re entry permit . That Keeps the visa alive when your away. Every 90 days u have to go to immigration and show them updated bank book and funds. Don't forget attend immigration right away and register where your staying u need it for extension.

visa exempt means you come without a visa and you get stamped in for 30 days. That might be what you think is a 30 day visa.. There is actually no such thing as a 30 day tourist visa.
Brandon ************
@Damien *******
visa exempt means you don't have a Visa and are stamped in for 30 days when you arrive. Available to a bunch of countries, mostly western.

There's no standard 30 day tourist visa.

There's visa exempt which isn't a Visa, and there's the 60 day Tourist Visa you apply for before you come to Thailand.

90 days in Thailand! Starts on your arrival date.

You've heard wrong...

Brandon Thurkettle Hmm. It does say "The first application for extension of stay by the foreigner is equivalent to the notification of staying in the Kingdom over 90 days." But I have heard where they don't do it and then shake you down for not reporting. Make sure they gave you a 90 report slip. Be careful.

90 days from the date of the yearly extension.
