Hi, if I arrived on a visa exempt 30days,then changed it to a non-'O' retirement, and am currently under the 'consideration period' waiting to do my 1 yr ext. When do I have to start doing the 90days report? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
After changing from a visa-exempt status to a Non-O retirement visa, you need to start the 90-day reporting once your one-year extension is approved. During the 'consideration period' for the extension, you do not have to worry about the 90-day report until you receive the extension, at which point the immigration office will inform you of the reporting date.

there is no "under consideration period" while you wait to do your one year extension ๐Ÿ˜•

When you apply for the in country Non-O visa you apply, pay and get a receipt that tells you to come back in 2 weeks to get the Non-O visa and new 90 day stamp inked in

BUT

Once you do that, you're not under any consideration you're here on a 90 day Non-O visa stamp and you just burn down 2 months until you have 30 days or less left on that 90 day stamp, meet the requirements and apply for the year

It's ONCE you apply for the new year extension of stay that the 90 day clock starts counting down, you don't have to worry about it until you get your year extension granted. The immigration office usually staples a small paper in your passport telling you when your first 90 day report is due when you get the year extension inked in

I see. Yes I think you're right, I'm not 'under consideration' anymore. I suspected the 90days does not start until you apply for the 1yr ext. but just wanted to double check. Thanks so much! ๐Ÿ™

totally correct, you're just burning down the time on this 90 day stamp until you can apply for the year, AND your 90 days starts counting the day you apply for the year extension
