What visa options are available for a US citizen visiting Thailand for 65 days?

Hello everyone, I hope you’ll forgive me for just a basic question. My mother is coming for the birth of our child in November and will stay in country for about 65 consecutive days. We are both US citizens. What are her options for visas and how best to go about doing this? I’ve heard of 30 day with visa run, 60 day apply at consulate at home (but she’s staying longer so 🤷🏼‍♀️) and even applying for a retirement visa. There is a possibility she will come back in April, if that matters. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The query discusses visa options for a US citizen's mother who plans to visit Thailand for 65 days for the birth of her grandchild. Recommendations include obtaining a 60-day tourist visa before the trip and extending it for an additional 30 days upon arrival, or considering a Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa for longer stays if future visits are expected. The discussion emphasizes avoiding the 30-day visa exempt entry as it won't meet the length of stay requirement and to check requirements at the Thai consulate in the US.

I think the O/P has enough choices for her Mom to look at the thai consulate's website in her country and see what is what as far as the requirements.

The worst choice is do nothing and show up on a 30 day visa exempt entry because even with a 30 day extension for 1900baht at the immigration office that's not the 65 days she needs in country.

They'd have to go back and apply for a second 30 day extension which would be denied (because you can only get one) and then they'd get the application for extension denied 7 day stamp to get out of thailand (also for 1900baht)

The least they should do is get a single entry tourist visa.

Good Luck (y)

I know your mum is from the U.S.A.

so you can have a look at a embassy there for the price etc.

In $

And with this visa no need to go to immigration for a extension.

Fee £60

Non-Immigrant Type O (Retirement (pensioner aged 50 or above with a state pension who wants to stay in Thailand for no longer than 90 days) - single entry only)

Financial evidence e.g. A copy of pension statement if the applicant is a pensioner, or a copy of 1-month bank statement showing your income from pension, or 3-month bank statement of at least £10,000

Confirmation of legal residence in the UK or Ireland

IF she's gonna jump thru the hoops to get a 90 day Non-O ,as the other post (which I accidentally deleted) recommended have her just get a year-long, multi-entry, Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa.

I apologize to the person who suggested the year-long, multi-entry Non-Immigrant Type O-A (Long Stay) visa as an option for the O/P's mother I didn't read the post correctly and thought they were only coming for a single trip.

That O-A visa (while it has significantly more requirements to meet to get the visa) certainly would afford the O/P's mother a chance to come and go here all they wanted to for a year.

The O/P stated their family member is coming for 65 days, let's stay on topic and get them a visa that will meet those needs,

No need to go wild and crazy with suggestions of this or that long stay visa.

As you were advised get a single entry tourist visa from a thai consulate in the US BEFORE your mom wings her way here, then have her get a 30 day extension of stay at the immigration office which serves the area where you live for 1900baht.

Thanks, Tod. I thought maybe they were addressing the fact that she may come back in April. As always, this group is amazing and super helpful; thank you for all of your hard work.
