Hello, I am a Swiss national currently living in Thailand and would like my mom to come visit me for as long duration as she can. What are her options as a tourist coming from Switzerland? Thank you for your advice and happy 2022!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Swiss national's mother has several options for visiting Thailand as a tourist. If she is over 50 and her child is living in Thailand on a Non-Immigrant visa, she can apply for a Non-O visa, which allows a 90-day stay and a potential one-year extension without financial proofs. Alternatively, she can also qualify for a Non-OA visa if she has 800,000 THB in a Swiss bank and health insurance, permitting a one-year stay with extension options based on retirement. Another choice is the elite visa, offering stays from 5 to 20 years at a starting cost of 600,000 THB. Lastly, she can consider a Single Entry Tourist Visa for 60 days, extendable by 30 days.

In addition to the comment above,

Her other option as a tourist is a Single Entry Tourist Visa with that she will be stamped for 60days upon entry to Thailand and eligible 30days tourism extension, making the stay 90days total.

Depends on HER status, and YOUR status:

If YOU are in Thailand on a Non-Immigrant visa (i.e. for employment), and SHE is over 50 years old, she should be able to get a Non-O visa based on being a parent to a foreigner with a Non-Immigrant visa. This will allow her to stay for 90 days. A one year extension of stay can be acquired without any proof of finances.

If SHE is over 50, she can acquire a Non-O or Non-OA visa based on being over 50. This requires having 800K THB in local currency in a Swiss bank account, and having health insurance (for Non-OA visas). The Non-O visa allows a person to stay for 90 days, and a Non-OA visa allows a person to stay for one year. At the end of the "admitted to" stamp, a person can apply for a one year extension of stay based on retirement.

She can also apply for an elite visa. This allows a person to stay between 5 years to 20 years in Thailand. The price starts at 600K THB.

hi, not doubting your expertise for one moment, but could this be a typo? I'm just starting to explore our options, and so far I only remember Thai Bank account?
Benjamin ******
No it is not a typo. I'm referring to getting the actual Non-OA visa while in Swiss from the Thai consulate. To acquire an extension of stay (to stay longer after the Non-OA expires) the money would have to be in a Thai bank account.
