Hi. My mother wants to come stay with us for longer period of time. She is planning to do tourist visa first and then extend it. Will she be able to change it to different type of visa in country, or will need to leave and come back in later?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers on the process for extending a tourist visa for someone coming to stay in Thailand. It is suggested to start with a tourist visa, which typically provides a 90-day stay (60 days plus a potential 30-day extension). There are various visa options for extending her stay without leaving the country, but specifics depend on her nationality and circumstances. Also, considerations related to COVID-19 requirements, such as health insurance and quarantine hotel stays, are important.
It's also asking for COVID insurance and ASQ hotel so you need that first.

Have someone around that can help her with the new tourist evisa. If your not computer savvy it's difficult. Taking pics of yourself holding PP, changing formats and uploading. Spent over 2hrs on it today trying to get docs into the right jpg or whatever and upload and I'm still not finished.

What is the age of your mother?
What passport nation?
Where will she be flying from?

Get a tourist visa to start...that gives her 60+30=90 days...then explore options to stay longer. Do NOT count on the 60 days COVID extension being available....soon it will be history IMHO.

Yes...but the kind of visa choices to extend the stay in country is varied.
