I am a US citizen with a recently expired Non-Immigrant OA visa (full two years). I am in Malaysia but planned to return to Thailand on April 1, get a 30 day entry, then on April 22 fly to the US. Because of the Coronavirus situation in the US, I am hoping to delay my return visit for 2-3 months. Any suggestions as to Thai visa options available to me that would allow me to stay 90 days or longer, as a stopgap while things calm down, after which I can replan my return to the US where I'll apply for a new OA visa? Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen with an expired Non-Immigrant OA visa, currently in Malaysia, seeks advice on visa options to stay in Thailand for 90 days or more due to delays in returning to the US caused by the Coronavirus situation. Suggestions from the community include applying for a Non-O visa, which may be easier to maintain, especially if over 50, as well as the possibility of obtaining a single-entry tourist visa from a Thai consulate in Malaysia.

Get a single entry tourist visa while you're in Malaysia from the thai consulate in Kuala Lumpur, Penang or Kota Bharu

Depends on where you stay, but you might get into Thailand using the 30 day Visa Exempt Entry, visit directly your Immigration Office and ask for the conversion to the Non Immigrant O visa based on being over 50 years of age

What's your long term plans? You can get a non-o visa, and get an extension of stay based on being over 50, it should be easier to maintain then the OA visa.

O-A does not require 800,000 Thai baht in Thai bank.
