What is the best visa option for visiting family in Thailand for three months?

Hello All

Thanks for the add. We plan to be visiting my son, his Thai partner and their child (our grandchild due in October) for 3 months every year. Can you please advise the best visa to get? Is it a 60 day (with a 30 day extension once we are there? How likely to get?)

They have a home in Chiangmai. Or would a relative visa be better once the baby is born? Thank you so much for any suggestions! We are very excited ❤️

TLDR : Answer Summary
The best option for visiting your son, his Thai partner, and their child in Chiang Mai for three months is to obtain a single-entry tourist visa. This visa allows for an initial stay of 60 days, which can be extended for an additional 30 days at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht. Unfortunately, there is no specific 'Relative Visa' available for visiting grandchildren, and since your son is not Thai, other family-related visa options do not apply.

The advice people gave you about getting a single entry tourist visa from a thai consulate in your country BEFORE you wing your way here is sound advice (y)

That visa will get you stamped in for 60 days and you can get a 30 day extension on that at the immigration office for 1900baht once you're here.

Unfortunately there is no "visit grandchildren" type of visa you can get and seeing as your son is NOT thai you can't get the "visit thai family" visa either.

I'd say your best bet (especially seeing as you're only here 3 months) is to get a single entry tourist visa, come here, get stamped in for 60 days and then go get the 30 day extension at the immigration office.

Good Luck, :)

60 day Tourist visa. There is no such thing as a 'Relative Visa'.

Thank you. Are extensions granted routinely for 30 more days?
