What visa should I choose for my extended stay in Thailand?

Hello, I am new to the group. I am planning a trip to Thailand in the fall. I already have purchased my plane tickets to travel. Because I am retired I thought I would stay a little longer to enjoy the country. My question is what Visa do you recommend for the time I will be staying? I already booked a Condo for 60 days in Bangkok, and plan to travel around the country after that. I never thought about the visa. Will it be a problem if I apply for a tourist visa 60 days and then 30 day extension, even if my plane tickets are for 86 days. Will the airline stop me from flying out of New York? Or apply for the type O retirement visa. I meet the qualifications for that also. Thank you in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning a trip to Thailand and needs advice on the best visa for their stay. They have bought plane tickets for 86 days and have a condo booked for 60 days. They are considering applying for a 60-day tourist visa with a 30-day extension or a Non-O retirement visa, as they meet the qualifications. Commenters advise that if they leave Thailand before 90 days, they shouldn't have a problem, but the airline may require proof of onward travel. The Non-O visa is recommended for avoiding extensions and complications.

Great question that I did not think about. I just received my 60 day tourist visa and my intention is to extend another 30 days. My flights there and back are 80 days apart. So now it’s my understanding that the airlines will check my return flight to be within the 60 days of the visa? I did not know this.

This 800k, or 65k figure is for the 12 month extension, not for the 90 day 'O' visa.

I agree with

. If you fulfil the requirements you can apply directly for a 90 days Non O visa. Then you’ll don’t need to concern about your return. The requirements are quite straightforward, and then you don’t need to do any extension on your tourist visa at the immigration in Thailand either. This is from the Thai consulate in New York.

Go for the Non O visa if you can meet the requirements.

As long as you travel out of Thailand before 90 days, that will be fine.

But the Airline may ask you about an onward ticket before the 60 days touristvisa runs out, since you haven’t applied for or been grated to stay in Thailand more than 60 days.

Ask your airline by email what their policy is for a Tourist Visa entry and get it printed
