What visa options are available for my mother to stay in Thailand for 5 months while she prepares for retirement?

Hi all my mum would like to come to Thailand in October for about 5 months, and then ideally keep doing that until she's ready to retire.

My question is what visa would be beneficial for her? I was thinking a multi entry tourist visa, but I am not sure how they work.

Can anyone shed some light?

Many thanks

Iain

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers on the best visa option for Iain's mother, who plans to stay in Thailand for 5 months and hopes to do so regularly until retirement. Suggestions include applying for a multi-entry tourist visa, which allows for multiple 90-day stays with border runs to reset the visa, and the Non-OA retirement visa, which is available for those over 50 without necessarily being retired. Answers detail the specifics of each option, including the complexities and potential limitations of the multi-entry tourist visa.

I have friend who gets a 60 day tourist e-visa multi entry then does a 30 day extension, then a border run, on re-entry you get another 60 days, using this method you can get up-to 9 months, put please fact check the above Iโ€™ve not done this myself.

Try WRLife for medical insurance and I think Bangkok Band do an accident insurance

How does he go for travel Insurance from the UK.

My maximum stay is 90 days on Annual insurance before I had to leave for insurance to be valid.

And that was difficult to get,90 days

Multi entry tourist visa from UK is fairly easy and straightforward to get. It gives you upto 9 months but you can only stay in Thailand for 90 days in one go. Then just hop over nearest border and straight back in, you get another 90 days. Its the simplest option if you only want 5 month stay.

Not very well explained. Multi entry tourist visa gives you 60 days, then apply for 30 day extension = 90 days. Then border run and depending I believe which border you cross, possibly the Thai immigration take a dim view if you cross the border and return the same day. When you do get back into Thailand then you get another 60 day stamp, then apply for a 30 day extension, then another border run and same procedure for your final entry, 60 days + 30 day extension.

She doesn't have to be retired to get a retirement visa, just as long as she's over 50. There are a number she can choose from each with different benefits and drawbacks but she might find the Non-OA from her home country the easiest initially

What passport does she hold and how old is she?

I usually stay here 5 months but this year they told me I can no longer do that with Tourist visa and extensions. They duggested a Non O visa based on over 50 is the best.

I was stopped on arrival at Suvarnabumi with a SETV and told I could not stay 5 months on a tourist visa and extensions and told the same again boarding a plane to Laos and again on arrival in Laos. The IO at Suvarnabumhi told me I should get a Non O visa if I want to stay 5 months every year. My plan 60 + 30 +30 +30 was okay last year but not this year.
