I’m hoping someone can give me a concrete answer. It seems to be conflicting on so many official sites. I’m leaving in two weeks for Thailand...hopefully!!!! Can I still go for 3 months from USA? If yes, what visa do I need now? I know about all of the other requirements COE, ASQ, Insurance, bank statement, FTF, etc. I’m running out of time. Thanking you in advance for any help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The best route for staying in Thailand for 3 months from the USA is to apply for a Tourist Visa (TR), which grants 60 days upon entry and can be extended once for an additional 30 days for a total of 90 days in the country. Alternatively, you could enter visa exempt for 30 days and request an extension at immigration. Recent updates indicate that the Special Tourist Visa (STV), which can extend up to 9 months, may also be available; however, you should verify current eligibility as policies are evolving. Given the complexities due to COVID-19, to enter Thailand, you will need a Certificate of Entry, insurance, and may need to undergo quarantine.

I applied to the consulate in Los Angeles for a special tourist visa and was given a 90-day visa. The only problem is that the visa. Just make sure to give them accurate dates of your arrival so that your 90 days begins on the day that you arrive and not before.

Thank you for all these responses. I decided to change my dates. Reducing it down to 90 days makes it easier and less expensive. Insurance is much cheaper at 90 days, and maybe they’ll reduce the ASQ from 15-10. Again thanks so much. 😊🙏

they are running the data collection period starting now, until jan 1'st i believe. so anyone arriving now will be subject to the 3 tests. and they will know by jan 15 what the decision is. i did read that the 10 day quarantine will only be for people from countries that have Covid under control, the USA is not one of those countries unfortunately

Unfortunately, you are right.

No earlier than late January for possible 10 day quarantine...

that trial commences Jan 1 and continues until Jan 15... Decisions will be made after that.

there is talk of reducing it to 10 days and sometime soon they will start testing 3 times during quarantine to gather the necessary data to make the decision. I think they will test at day 9 or 10, then again before people leave. If no cases are found between those to tests then it is likely they will reduce it. I believe I had seen sometime in January as a possibility. A lot of the hotels have said they will give an appropriate refund if the quarantine time changes between booking and your quarantine, so make sure you ask.

2 weeks....they suggest 15 business days from start to finish for the whole process, most places seem to be pretty quick but that’s a lot to get together with very little room for problems

If you are trying to stay long term you do NOT want the Single Entry Tourist Visa (SETV) you want ths Special Tourist Visa (STV).

STV is 3 months and can extend to 9 months.

That is what I thought I needed. Originally I planned on 4 months. On the Embassy’s sites it looks like this s no longer available to the USA. I don’t mind reducing to 90 if that’s what I need to do. If I didn’t love Thailand as much as I do, I’d go somewhere else, but I love the Thai culture, people, food ad medical.

The site hasn't been updated. The US just became eligible for STV within the last 7 days. Call or email the embassy.

Thank you. I have called several times without getting a live person. Also emailed two embassies with no response yet. Pretty frustrating! Thanks so much. I’m close to canceling. I’ll see how it goes today!!!! 😊🙏

I’m having the same issue with London embassy and flying in two weeks (hopefully) I applied for the COE and they emailed me to say you need your visa first (TR for 60 days which I could extend when I’m there) you can’t go in and out or you will need to quarantine again and probably in where ever you go to as well.)

It says different on the Coe website but that’s what they emailed me so passports in the post to the embassy now and COE will be done online as soon as it’s back all being well. Good luck

Thank you. I changed my dates. I’m afraid I might not get everything in time. Good luck to you. My fingers are crossed. 😊🙏

Actually you could go in visa exempt (30day stamp on entry) then get 2 lots of 30 days extra at immigration officers digression.

@Will ***********
that was all Pre-covid everything is different + also if you DID do that you would need to qurantine each time on your return.
Ryan ********
@Colin *******
Will is saying to go to the immigration office to report and ask for an extension. no boarder crossing required. you could do this prior to covid. i think it costs 1900THB. but no one knows if this is still the case since they just announced they are allowing visa exempt countries to arrive for 30 days.
Colin ********
@Ryan *******
the visa exempt seems a waste because a COE, test and quarantine etc are still all required. BTW a visa company has just offered to sort it all out for me for 30k but I haven't done any DD yet.
Ryan ********
@Colin *******
yea thats the problem with allowing anyone in right now with the quarantine period still at 15 days. its not worth it for short term visits. no one wants to spend 15 days in quarantine, even if its a month of vacation time. not worth it. as when you get home you probably have to quarantine again!

Precisely!

It’s not the STV visa right? Which one do I check off?
Heidrun ********
@Valerie *********
just a regular tourist visa, TR is what they call it. Not STV, not exemption.

Is it the new tourist visa scheme?
Will ************
@Valerie *********
No it is just a tourist visa
Stuart *********
It sounds like the tourist visa is the way to go. Valid for 90 days from issue. Gives you 60 days on entry. Extendable once for another 30 days.

Tourist visa then extend for further 30 days in Thailand to give you up to 90 in country.
