TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a Special Tourist Visa (STV) as a US citizen to stay in Thailand for up to 9 months, you should start the application process through your local Thai embassy or consulate. The STV allows an initial stay of 90 days, which can be extended twice for 90 days each, allowing for a total stay of up to 9 months. It's essential to have proof of accommodation for the entire duration you plan to stay after quarantine. Keep in mind that all necessary payments for the STV and accommodations may need to be made upfront, and you must check in detail for any updates or requirements specific to your situation.
90 DAY REPORTING RESOURCES / SERVICES

The option you want on the evisa site for the Special Tourist Visa is this one

Select "duration of stay no longer than 90 day" and then the STV will come up as a choice

In the requirements for the STV, it says that you need to have proof of accomodation for the entire length of time after quarantine, do you know if that's true? Of so, would that mean you can't really travel around Thailand?

totally true, you need to show that you have a confirmed lodging for 90 days from the date you arrive. You can cancel your booking but you need to show 90 days lodging when you apply

wow, that's why it tricked me because it said "no longer than 90 days" I guess that's because you can renew it two more times? You're a life saver, thanks!

right the first entry is "no longer than 90 days" and then you can extend it two times for 90 days each

to many hoops to jump through. Everything needs to be paid upfront. Can't be extended inside Thailand.

ahhh, I see. You mean like the accomodation paid up front etc...? Which one would you recommend, I'd really like to stay more than 90 days if possible but maybe another SEA country will be open by then

I'm doing the ED visa. Its 8 months currently and yes there is some commitment to learn Thai, but it gets you 8 months (10 if you do the 60 day tourist visa before). Not all people want to commit to learning Thai, but it's pretty helpful when you stay long term in Thailand. These are just my opinions.

Pretty much all is done here except the Thailand pass. I don't think embassies or consulates will communicate with anyone. Too many inquiries and too little staff to answer

thanks for the reply! I've started my visa process but I don't see any option for the Special Tourist Visa, only the standard Tourism Visa. Is it something that you get after the regular visa? Thanks

Iโ€™ve no idea which one youโ€™re trying to contact but from various posts here the best method maybe by Facebook messenger. If you let me know which embassy/consulate I can try and find that link.
