TLDR : Answer Summary
A USA citizen cannot obtain a 90-day tourist visa for Thailand; the regular single-entry tourist visa allows for 60 days, extendable for 30 days. Given the imminent travel date of December 31, 2020, the time constraints for visa approval, and other COVID-19 related requirements such as a 'Certificate of Entry', it is likely insufficient time to arrange all necessary documentation.

If u intend to stay more than 60days..you must apply for the Special tourist pass STV. If u staying less than 60days, since USA is visa exempt, u just only need to apply COE to enter thailand, u must need a return ticket for this trip

@Ron***
Visa exempt entry is 30 days

I made arrangements of all of the above. The FTF and covid test need to be the done in the 72 hour period. The only thing I needed was the visa and COE. I rescheduled my flight to
****
/21.

so you mean you already booked a 14 day stay at an approved quarantine hotel here, already got a fit-2-fly certificate from a doctor, already got your 100thousand US dollars of covid specific insurance, booked your repatriation flight and are waiting on your Certificate of Entry from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?

Hope ur right. But in aust- u apply then get a pre approval, then u must apply again for full approval with flights details then this takes another 3 days.

Not special tourist visa (STV), but the regular single entry tourist visa gives you 60 days in Thailand, then you can extend that for 30 more days for bt1900. There is no 90 day tourist visa for Americans. With the time it takes to get approved for your visa, then mail your passport to the Thai embassy/consulate for your visa sticker/stamp, you're going to be hard pressed to get it back in time, then get everything done for your COE, and covid-19 test, that has to be done no later than 72 hours before you fly, given the holidays, and workers vacations. You have got only 7 business days to get your visa approved, get your passport mailed, and get it back in time, plus everything else.

Not true the Special Tourist Visa is 90 days and can be extended/renewed twice for a total of 9 months.

you are correct the STV is 90 days, but anyone applying for the STV is most likely planning on staying the whole 270 days.

The OP stated they want to come for 90 days. that would be a Tourist Visa, which is also cheaper and less requirements to obtain. 60+30 day TR visa.

@Jim ********
yes, you are correct. I always view it as a 270 day visa.

thats a single entry tourist visa not the special tourist visa
