TLDR : Answer Summary
An American visitor to Thailand for three months can choose between a 30-day visa exemption and applying for a 60-day tourist visa. Many commenters suggest obtaining a 60-day tourist visa through the eVisa site and then extending it by 30 days at a local immigration office. There's consensus that you cannot initiate a 60-day tourist visa extensions while in Thailand if entering on a 30-day exemption; doing so typically requires exiting the country. Thus, securing a 60-day visa prior to arrival and extending it afterward is generally viewed as the most straightforward approach.

A 60 days tourist visa from back home and then extend it another 30 days at the local immigration office. This is by far the easiest way to get 90 days. The extension cost ฿1.900.

Tourist visas are used to enter the country, not to extend your stay. You can't extend a visa exempt entry with a 60 day tourist visa or evisa without exiting the country and reentering on the tourist visa to activate the 60 days.

You can’t apply for a tourist visa in Thailand do it from home and you won’t have to do a border bounce 60+30

Apply for 90 before you leave the states. Much less bs and cheaper

It's been awhile since I've used a short one. Worst case op can do 60+30 day extension.

Yes, I know, but on leaving the US you apply and get 60 days, you apply again for the 30 days extension

you've interpreted that incorrectly. The tourist visa is valid to be used ONE time within a 3 month period for one entry of 60 days. It doesn't grant a 90 day stay. The visa itself is valid to be redeemed once during the 90 days before it expires, not that it gives a 90 day stay.

ya, been awhile. I'm old and privileged with yearly extension now. 😂🤣

You cannot get 60 days in country only 30 days extension, so option b is best

Apply for a 60 day tourist visa from the evisa site and then get an extension at a local immigration office for 30 days.
