TLDR : Answer Summary
A TR visa (tourist visa) can cover a 90-day stay in Thailand, as it provides an initial 60 days, which can be extended for an additional 30 days at local immigration. Alternatively, travelers can enter Thailand on a 60-day visa exemption, which can similarly be extended for an additional 30 days. Since both options lead to a total of 90 days, it may be unnecessary to pay for a tourist visa unless other factors apply.

Since they changed visa exempt entries to 60 days, there's no practical difference between a 60 day visa exempt entry and a 60 day tourist visa. Both can be extended one time for 30 more days. So no reason to pay for the tourist visa.
that’s the reason for my question. If a TR was good for the 90 days, it will be worth it to get and avoid the extension hassle. Wish they would disable it from the US eVisa application.
They cannot disable it as some passport holders who may be residing in the US still require a TR Visa to enter Thailand as they do not qualify for Visa Exempt
Sorry, the only extension available for Non O is one year extension of Stay, unless you’re married Thai or have a Thai child and can apply for the 60 days extension visiting Thai family. Only tourist visa and visa extension gives possibility to apply for the 30 days tourist extension.
You’re also entitled to a 60 days visa exemption, and both a tourist visa and a visa exemption needs to be extended with additional 30 days at your local immigration and both give 90 days in total.
