I asked previously about a retirement visa for myself and my husband on this group. I was told that we don't have to both have 800 000.00 Bhat. Please confirm if my husband does the retirement visa, what visa would I apply for ? Appreciate your feedback. We are South African.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When one spouse applies for a retirement visa (Non-OA) in Thailand, the other spouse can generally apply for a dependent visa (Non-O). As both individuals are over 50, the dependent visa allows the spouse to reside in Thailand without needing separate funds. It is crucial to confirm precise requirements and processes with the local Thai embassy, especially since your citizenship may have different stipulations compared to others.

pne person go for retired - the other for dependant.

One of you can apply non OA and the one of you can apply Non-O as a dependent to a foreigner who is legally staying Thailand. But Non-O could be 90days single entry and you need to do extension in Thailand. I hope

if you ever want to find something, there is a search function at the top of the page. You can either search by subject or if it was your thread, just search by your name 😊

You would be his dependent on the retirement visa if you are both over 50. You only need the one bank account from the applicant with 800,000 baht. You will also both need to get the annual non-immigrant visa too, ideally on the same day. We did this as UK/US citizens and it should be the same for SA.

Annette, kindly phone Karin Kloppers at the Royal Thai Embassy in Pretoria. She is the best person who can assist with correct information as to requirements should you apply from the Thai Consulate in South Africa

thank you for your feedback. I will definitely get confirmation from Karin. I got confirmation on this group regarding the visas that we required but somehow I'm unable to find that discussion on this group.

If your husband applies to the retirement (non-immigrant OA) Visa, you would apply as his spouse (same type of Visa). That is what I just did 1 month ago. Only one bank account showing $25,000 in your statement. We are US citizens though. South Africa might have different requirements.

we are both over the age of 50 and have no intention of working in Thailand.

Annette Dolby Yes. I know. I'm pointing out the visa type, not the country.

Maria appears to be wrong as my screenshot from Tod shows.

People do call it a retirement visa, although it is just an Over-50 visa.

An old post from Tod regarding the visa type.

People do refer to the Non Imm O-A visa for over 50s as a retirement visa.

it is the O-A that we are looking for.

non-imm OA is not retirement visa, you confuse the poster with wrong info, they are also South Africans not US.

Its a big difference between VISA and extension of stay. One you get from embassy/consulate other from immigration
