Hi,

We are a UK couple and looking at living overseas options. My wife is 50 but I am 7 years younger, is it possible that she could get a retirement visa and then I could apply for dependency visa?

We are fortunate enough to have funds required and an external income that will continue in the UK through investments, but are unsure of the protocols

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK couple is inquiring whether the wife, aged 50, can obtain a retirement visa in Thailand, allowing the younger husband to apply for a dependency visa. Community responses confirm that the wife is indeed eligible for the retirement visa, categorized as Non-Immigrant O, and the husband can subsequently apply for the dependency visa. Additionally, there are discussions regarding financial requirements, the potential use of a Thai Elite visa, legalizing marriage documents, and health insurance considerations.

Always weigh up those who tell you to avoid AO retirement visa because it requires health insurance. If you're planning retirement in Thailand, unless you're a big fan of begging for money on GoFundMe, at some time you're going to need to attend doctors, specialists and hospitals. Sadly it's one of those drawbacks of getting old. Now if you're quite wealthy and are happy to fund your own health requirements, that's excellent, because Thai hospitals, although offering world-class facilities and services, are NOT cheap. If you start with an insurer before you turn 75, you can keep renewing until you're 99.

i think the main poblem is that all pre existing health problem are excluded.from protection but you are most vulnerable because of these pre conditions

Ken Chao. So you need a healthy bank account for these situations

@Bobby *******
insurance is not useful, the daily hospital rates are too low, unless you can get coverage from your country

Robert Gerchalk. You get an insurance which is tied to a specific hospital.

If using this route try to get your marriage certificate legalused for use in Thailand before you come as it will save you time & hassle. Google has several articles on this

Thai Elite mat be your best option . Get a 20 year visa and no immigration hassle …just very expensive

Sure an option if you are willing to do this: Are now required to have a minimum monthly offshore income of RM40,000 (up from RM10,000).

Must have their fixed deposit amount increased from RM150,000 (for MM2H holders over-50s) and RM300,000 (for younger MM2H holders) to a minimum of RM1 million, where up to 50% of the savings can be withdrawn for the purchase of property, health and children’s education.

Proof of liquid assets has increased from RM500,000 to RM1.5 million.

Yeah... that's the current requirement for the rich or the stupid ones.

Which is great because Malaysia doesn't want the stupid ones🙂

The OP said he had the funds available and is looking for options - just giving another option

putting 1 million RM in a fixed deposit that can't be touched, that's what I would call stupid but each their own.

Gosh ... if only you knew more about this program 🙂 Don't google Sarawak... you don't need to know about it

Your wife is eligible to apply retirement visa in Thailand and you can obtain the dependent visa after her get retirement visa.

Anyhow you and your wife have to obtain Non Immigrant visa category "O" before enter Thailand . Kindly note it should be Non "O" not Non O-A because of Non O-A it requires more insurance cover for 400,000 B for first obtaining and renewal visa.

Non O is only required 800K (the principle account or provable pension for 65,000 B per month)in bank account.

Financial evidence such as a copy of a bank statement with an amount equivalent to Thai currency of not less than 800,000 baht or a certificate of income/pension (original) of not less than 65,000 baht per month, or having a deposit account and income. /pension (per month X 12) total not less than 800,000 baht (in case of showing a copy of the deposit account The original bank certificate must also be presented when you obtain visa at Thai enbassy) (( more details kindly contact Thai Embassy where you have residency)
