Hi Everyone ! My husband is 50 and I am 45, would we be able to apply for the retirement visa? I know Iโ€™m under the age, but Iโ€™m just wondering if been married plays any role in this regard ? Furthermore would we both have to reflect the 800k in our bank accounts, again does marriage affect this in any way ? Any advice would be lovely thanks so much ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the eligibility for a retirement visa in Thailand when one partner is under the age of 50 and the other is over. It highlights that while the husband may qualify for a retirement visa based on age, the wife can apply for a dependent visa if they are married. However, it appears increasingly complicated to obtain a trailing spouse visa in Thailand. There are alternative suggestions for the wife to apply for a dependent visa from their home country, as most advise against applying within Thailand due to strict regulations. Furthermore, concerns about financial requirements, such as the need for 800,000 THB in a bank account, are mentioned, indicating that marriage does not usually change this requirement.

your husband need a non-oa from thai embassey outside thailand then you can apply for a non-o (as his dependant regardless of your age) at same. non-oa if others tell you different check with embassy. i have a letter from mine confirming that

You can't get a trailing spouse Visa within Thailand.

The Thai consulate in Penang used to issue them but stopped last year.

You need to try in your home country.

If your husband has enough passive income, LTR for pensioners would do.

He can add up to three family member on his visa.

This for your husband

About marriage will help you not sure but ask Imigration

Go to Imigration & apply for change visa To O

visa cost 2000 baht takes about 2 month

U get a 3 month O then u have 45-30 days left

Go to Imigration again & apply for 1 year extension cost 1900 baht

as I wrote

Ask Imigration

immigration won't do anything. You cannot get a trailing spouse visa in Thailand.

If you use an agent once here, your husband will get the retirement o visa and you can be dependant on his. But you need your marriage certificate translated and stamped in Thai embassy Bangkok.

OO Edward just renewed mine 1 year extension start of this month.

@Paula ********
This is bad advice. It's not possible to get a trailing spouse in visa in Thailand.

Simple answer is no.

Until you are 50 its a no go.

You can try and apply from your home country for a non-o or OA based on retirement for him.

Then you apply for non-o dependant visa based on his retirement.

Only 800k required.

The dependant requires no funds.

It depends if your embassy will issue the non-o vs an OA.

You can do OA but has different requirements, medical and criminal clearances, health insurance mandatory by specific suppliers, etc.

Your husband would get a visa based on his age. You would need a dependent visa, often called a trailing spouse visa. But it's increasingly difficult to get the trailing spouse visa if your husband is on a non-o visa and you certainly can't get it in Thailand or any of the surrounding countries. The best is to try for it in your home country but they may require your husband to be on the non-oa visa as opposed to the non-o visa before they will issue to you.
Brandon ************
This is not possible to do in Thailand or anywhere in SE Asia.

The only chance you have is if the Thai embassy in your home country is willing to sell your husband a non-O visa based on being 50+, and also willing to sell you a "trailing spouse" non-O visa based on being married to him.

If they allow it, then you can both arrive in Thailand on the non-O visas, and your husband can open a Thai bank account, transfer the 800,000 from outside of Thailand, and apply for a 1-year extension after the money has been in the bank for 2 full months. That will allow you to apply for a 1-year extension based on his extension.

Both come over on tourist visas and do it here. If your husband gets a non immigrant o in your country, you will need a large amount of health insurance. Much more cost effective here in Thailand.

For you, have you considered an Education visa where you learn the Thai language twice a week? Or a volunteer visa.

Once here, get a good visa agent and you'll have no issues.
