ORIGINAL POSTER
Relocating to Thailand from USA for retirement at age 50 raises questions about my wife joining me, as she won't be 50. What type of visa would she need? Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When relocating to Thailand for retirement at age 50, your wife, who is under 50, will require a dependent visa to join you. Suggestions include applying for the Non-O visa from the US, which allows for the issuance of a dependent visa for your wife once you are in Thailand. Another option discussed is the long-term resident (LTR) visa if you meet the income requirements. It's necessary to provide proof of your marriage (such as a marriage certificate). Additional advice includes exploring teacher work visa options if she is interested, although that may not align with the intent to retire.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

If you have the required income ($80k) the LTR retiree visa for you and LTR dependent for her is by far your best option

She “follows” you on your “retirement” visa. I do this with my non-Thai wife for years now. All OK and legit.

If she’s not far away from turning 50, get a 90Visa fr the embassy and convert when the 90days is over n hopefully turned 50 by then. That’s how I did it under advice fr embassy staff. Good luck.

First apply for a non-o from America.

Have you marriage license authenticated by the Thai embassy, consulate there if possible. US embassy in Thailand does not legalize any American documents for you here.

Wait till your wife is that age ..or just be selfish.

You can apply for non-o and dependant visas from the US on the evisa platform.

You can both come with the visa.

The non-o you want is 90 day (not longstay)

Non-o 90 day based on being over 50

Non-o 90 day visiting non Thai family

Once in Thailand deposit 800k for the primary visa holder and apply for 1year extension.

The dependant does not need funds only proof of relationship.

Original marriage certificate.

Is you wife a teacher? Maybe she can get a work visa to teach?
Lincoln *******
@Sharron ******
good idea, but if they are in a position to retire at/under 50 then i doubt his wife wants to come here to teach full time for a relatively low income

agree but only for very good and experienced teachers

true but we do not know their situation. 😀

I loved teaching math at intl schools in Oman and Singapore. 😀

@Mel *****
exactly, but then the point that they are able to retire stands. I taught in China for a few years, it was fun in my 20's but i didn't do it for the sport of it haha. Hard work!

just trying to give the original poster options for the under age 50 spouse since sometimes teachers do not know about the option of teaching their speciality subject at an intl school. Many teachers think the only teaching jobs overseas would be teaching English.

I only started at intl schools at age 43 and it was life-altering compared to teaching mathematics in usa 😀

Love your answer. I bet you are a wonderful teacher..

@Sharron ******
hehe. Retired now on the over 50 non O. Loving my chill life in Thailand. 😀
