Greetings All. Thanks for admitting me to this group. My husband and I are strongly considering Thailand for our retirement home. We read about the financial requirements but we're not sure if the amount shown would be for each of us or if there is a different amount for couples. We looked on the Thai visa website but couldn't find a clarification for this.

Does anyone know the answer. It would be much appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The financial requirements to retire in Thailand can be met by one spouse, allowing the other to join as a spouse under the same visa extension. It is essential for both spouses to secure 90-day Non-O visas from a Thai consulate in their home country before arriving in Thailand.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

One of you will meet the financial requirements based on retirement and one of you will 'piggy back' on their visa/extension based on being the spouse of a person on a retirement visa/extension.

You BOTH need to get 90 day Non-O visas from the thai consulate in your country BEFORE you wing your way here (one based on retirment and one based on being the spouse of someone retired).

I say that because while a person can come in on a visa exempt/tourist visa entry and get an in country 90 day Non-O visa based on retirement you can't come in that way and get a 90 day Non-O visa based on being the spouse of a retiree ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

They don't issue visas in country for that reason.

If using the trailing spouse method you will need to have your marriage certificate legalised for use un Thailand & official Thai translation.

Hello, Iโ€™m researching and saw your comment about having marriage certificate legalized for use in Thailand. My husband and I are in the USA and want to retire in Thailand. Where do we get the license legalized at? In home country or in Thailand? Which office does that? By County, State, or federal office?

I would contact your lical Thai embassy to ask as they all seem to be different.

I had to have the certificate certified by issueing country then translated & certified again by Thai ministry.

you'll notice I didn't list the requirements for them to get year extensions inside of thailand (not based on retirement OR based on trailing spouse). I just told them to get the 90 day visas before they came here ๐Ÿ™‚
