Could someone give me advice on what type of visa I should get for myself and my wife. I am an American and my wife is Thai. We have our tickets for the end of March and will be staying for almost 3 months. The wife and I both have American passports but the wife also has a Thai passport but it expires about 2 weeks before we will get there. Any ideas of what type of visa we need to have? Any help will be appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An American man and his Thai wife are planning a 3-month trip to Thailand. They should consider obtaining a 60-day tourist visa, which can be extended for an additional 30 days upon arrival. Additionally, the wife needs to renew her expired Thai passport before departure or check if she can enter Thailand with her expired Thai passport. It's advisable to confirm with the Thai Embassy regarding entry rules for Thai citizens.

Flying from US to Thailand? Your wife can enter Thailand on an expired Thai passport is it easier to renew in Thailand?

thanks. We thought that she might be able to but are worried what would happen if they refused to let her enter.

Unless Thai has totally different rules than USA, then she should be arriving into the Kingdom with the Thai PP for her. I would certainly check with the Thai Embassy on that.

Get a 60 day tourist visa, available online… extend for a further 30 days at immigration when you are here.

I have thought about that but our return tickets are in June and not sure they would allow that or even gives us a 30 day extension

You will definitely give you a 30 day extension… and it may be possible to apply for another one. The rules are continually changing …
