My wife has a US passport and arrived in Thailand August 9, so her 30 days is over September 7. She will get her Thai passport a week before her 30 days is up, and was wondering if she will need to leave Thailand before 30 days and re-enter with her Thai passport or can she just let the 30 days pass?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual in question is currently in Thailand on a US passport, which allows a 30-day stay that will expire on September 7. They are anticipating receiving a Thai passport shortly before this deadline. It's important to note that she cannot simply let the 30 days pass without taking action. Instead, she can apply for an extension at the local immigration office, providing her Thai ID and passport for a possible one-year extension. However, she will eventually need to leave Thailand and re-enter using her Thai passport, as it's not possible to switch from one nationality to another while remaining in the country.

She's here as an american so cannot just "let the 30 days pass"

She can go to the immigration office where she lives, show the thai i/d card and passport to get a year extension on that 30 day stamp based on being a thai national who entered on a different countries passport for 1900baht.

She WILL eventually have to exit the country to get OFF the US passport and use the thai passport to re-enter. There's no way to switch nationalities inside the country and she'll have to do it by air as you can't switch passports by land bounces either
