Hello, I am a 33 year old Norwegian. My father has lived in Thailand for 12 years, he is in the hospital, and has been for 4 months. To me it would seem he will be staying for a long time.
I have to stay here and be financially responsible for him. Is there any emergency medical visas? I've tried asking at the local immigration, but no one understood English. Is the border run to Laos or Cambodia for a 3 month visa my most reliable way?
Thank you
TLDR : Answer Summary
A Norwegian citizen is seeking advice on obtaining an appropriate visa to stay in Thailand, where his father is hospitalized. He inquires about emergency medical visas or the possibility of a border run to Laos or Cambodia for a 3-month visa. Respondents clarify that a border run will not provide a visa, and mention the existence of a medical visa for caregivers, which may require coordination with the hospital and immigration. It is advised to consult the hospital for assistance in applying for the medical visa, which would include necessary documentation.
