Hello, I am a 33 year old Norwegian. My father has lived in Thailand for 12 years, he is in the hospital, and has been for 4 months. To me it would seem he will be staying for a long time.

I have to stay here and be financially responsible for him. Is there any emergency medical visas? I've tried asking at the local immigration, but no one understood English. Is the border run to Laos or Cambodia for a 3 month visa my most reliable way?

There is a medical declaration that must include you on it, name passport info etc.

The hospital knows what to do.

You will have to present to immigration, can be done while he is hospitalized.

Talk to the hospital he is in. It is possible to get a medical visa as a guardian/care giver in certain situations.

There is a medical visa that was introduced last year but its more for pre planned medical procedures this visa allows for a caregiver. But i dont think it can be applied in country.

A border run will not get you any visa. To get a visa you must go to a Thai embassy or consulate, apply and pay, and wait for them to process it.

I believe what the last member was trying to convey is a VISA is different than a “Extension of Stay.” If you had a 1 year multi-entry VISA from your Home, going to the border would only work to serve for the 90 day requirment to leave the country, and return. This is Only capable on a Multi-entry type VISA. The only way I am aware of getting an extension of stay is to have a long term multi-entry VISA from your homes Thai embassy, first. Then apply for one of the in country plans. I hope this clarifies a little.
