Hi all. Please can ANYONE advise me if I can get a "Dependent Visa" in current situation?....

- 52 years old. Danish Passport

- Currently on tourist visa. Will do Covid-extension tomorrow which should give me 2 months extra time.

- Seperated from my Thai-wife (still officially married and good friends). She has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and the situation is very bad. (might have 6-18 months left)

- We have an 8 year old son. He lives with me, goes to international school and is 100% dependent on me.

- I am able to put 500.000 THB in my Thai Bank Account, but would like to avoid putting 800.000 THB in the bank, as I also need money to help the mother of my son with her medical bills and treatment.

Based on the above. Am I able to apply for a Dependent Visa? I have asked the Visa Adviser at my sons school. She does not know! Last time I went to the immigration I could also not get a clear answer. Would appreciate any helpfull feedback. Thanks.

Anyone here taking care of their Thai-child, still offically married, but on a Dependent visa? (Not marriage visa).

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, a 52-year-old Danish national, is seeking advice on applying for a Dependent Visa while currently on a tourist visa and facing financial constraints due to supporting his son's Thai mother who is terminally ill. Key points include the user's separation from his wife, dependency of his Thai child on him, and difficulty in meeting certain financial conditions for visa eligibility. Community responses suggest that applying for a Non-O visa based on having a Thai child may be a viable pathway, though specific local immigration policies may apply and documentation may be required.

Chiang Mai has their own requirements list, but here is the general version. You may be able to get a rough idea of what you will need

okay, first lets get the financial requirements sorted out,

IF you have a half thai child the amount is 400K baht NOT 500K

SO what you're wanting to do is apply first for the Non-O visa based on being the father of a half thai child, and then after that get the year extension for the same reason.

I think your wife will have to go with you for sure, OR you're gonna need a pile of documentation from the hospital why she can't (like that she has stage 4 cancer, etc).

Once in a while they let people who don't have the funds seasoned the 2 months for a yearly marriage extension to get the extension based on raising half thai children, (as there is no seasoning of the funds)

BUT

I can't recall anyone getting the initial 90 day Non-O visa based on being the father of a half thai while still married to the thai mother. <- which doesn't mean it can't be done, just that I can't remember it ever happening ๐Ÿ˜•

If your office won't do it, you might have to go to a thai consulate (say Savannakhet Lao) and get a 90 day single entry Non-O visa based on being the father of a half thai child, come in get the 90 day stamp,

Then when it runs down apply for the year extension at the immigration office.

What office are you using. Just because someone MIGHT have gotten the Non-O under the conditions you outline IF it wasn't at the immigration office you go to the advice is meaningless, because there are OVER 70 immigration offices in the country

Just wanted to say thanks for your advice. Got the Covid extension today and you were right. I will need the Non-O first and then the year extension. Thanks again ๐Ÿ™‚

No problem with my wife going with me. I will go there tomorrow and ask how I do this. Hopefully will find someone this time who can give me clear info. Thanks a lot for your feedback and advice.

In Chiang Mai you need a minimum of 21 days left on your stamp to apply for an in country Non-immigrant visa (of any type).

I don't think you're going to pull it off without your wife with you, OR without her at least talking to them on the phone when you go there yourself to ask them ๐Ÿ˜•
