Hi all, I'm in the last stages of getting approved for a LTR-T visa, but I got asked the following to be able to continue:

*"* Please provide international health insurance (travel insurance is unacceptable) policy covering entire course of stay in Thailand, with coverage for hospitalization treatment of no less than 50,000 USD and the remaining period of no less than 10 months"*

I'm not sure if I need to pay up front for 10 years of health insurance or just 10 months.

Does anyone have experience with this and know which insurance will be enough to match their criteria without overpaying? And any recommendations on specific plan/company? Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses the requirements for international health insurance needed for the LTR-T visa application in Thailand, specifically asking whether to purchase coverage for 10 months or a year. Several comments clarify that only 10 months is necessary, but acquiring a full year is advisable to mitigate potential delays. The conversation also touches on the comparison between acceptable health insurance and travel insurance, along with advice to consult the BOI for qualified insurers.

BOI does now have a list of providers. But, if you simply show $100k in the bank, you don’t need the insurance

Just talk to the BOI. They have a list of insurers that qualify

it can be accepted if it states the minimum coverage of medical expenses and the duration of coverage

Why is travel insurance unacceptable? Some policies are valid up to a year.

Probably because of the fact that when on a travel insurance, the insurance wants to repat you to your 'home' country asap.

When on a conventional insurance you can ride out the whole treatment in Thailand.

No idea unfortunately. They didn't explain

You only need 10 months but should purchase 1 year to account for any delays in the paperwork.

It depends on how you are getting your visa. If you are going to purchase it at the embassy in your home country then do it now.

If you are going to wait until you go to Thailand, then you shouldn't even be doing the LTR application because once you get approved your approval is only valid for 60 days so if you aren't traveling to Thailand for a few months still, you are wasting your time now.

Thank you! Do you know if I can set the start date of the insurance to when I expect to arrive in Thailand (a few months from now) or should it be from today/time of application?
