What type of financial documents does the Thai embassy accept for a visa application?

Quick question -

I was asked the followings as extra documents to provide -

* "Document indicating current location: Documents without an English version is recommended to be translated at an official translation office in Vietnam. A financial statement is required, including bank transactions from the last 6 months and an account balance of at least 500,000 BHT."

I did share way more than that as a proof of funds in my Interactive Brokers accounts (financial institution). and I attached a proof of the ownership of such account under my name. I even highlighted the numbers and name... And yes, everything is in English.

Could someone explain me what am I missing? I might have skipped the bank statement for the previous 6 months, but even if I share it, I don't hold such sums on my checking account, it's not gaining any interest there...

Did anyone experience such thing? Would appreciate some wisdom...

TLDR : Answer Summary
The embassy typically requires proof of funds to be in a traditional bank account rather than in a brokerage account like Interactive Brokers. Applicants must provide a bank statement showing at least 500,000 BHT (or equivalent in other currencies) held in their name for the last six months. Documents from investment accounts may not be accepted, and it is advisable to contact the embassy directly for specific requirements, as acceptance can vary by location.

In my case, they did not accept a brokerage account (Fidelity). I had to submit a statement from a checking or savings account at my bank. It worked.

They want to see the money in a savings or checking account and want to see 6 months of statements to prove that you use that account routinely. It sounds like what you shared with them isn’t what they want.

Before taking people who don't have any specific experience with this at face value I highly recommend emailing the embassy directly about it.

It depends on where you are applying for as to their flexibility on a host of rules. I have read here with some saying their crypto was accepted as cash equivalent and this particular poster said that they were approved as a portfolio manager specifically relating to interactive brokers showing the value of his holdings in that account to the embassy in Germany.

In other words don't listen to people who are talking out of their 🫏

Cash in a brokerage account is usually not accepted at most embassies. The 500k has to be in a bank account. Some people have even been rejected for having the money in Wise because it's not a real bank. You will likely need to withdraw 500k to your bank account and apply again at an embassy that doesn't require seasoning of the funds.

What is Interactive Brokers ???

Your 500,000 Thai baht or equal in foreign currency MUST be in a BANK ACCOUNT in YOUR name only.

@James *******
it's an online stock trading firm and won't be acceptable in Vietnam for the 500k as you detail

Interactive brokers is not a bank, sorry.

I think it depends on the Embassy - some only accept bank accounts. Not brokerage or investment accounts.
