What should we do next after receiving our Non-B visa for teaching in Thailand?

Just got our Non-B for teaching. Yay!

Questions:

1) What are the next steps? Our employer is supposed to apply for our work permit, right?

2) Are we allowed to begin teaching now or must we wait for the work permit?

3) It's single entry and valid for 90 days. What must we do if we travel outside of Thailand during that period? My husband is leaving on Monday for 2 weeks.

4) After the initial period of 90 days, will we have to leave the country?

5) Our 1.5 year old daughter is on a Non-O. Also valid for 90 days. Are her requirements different than ours?

Hey thanks for everyone for helping us navigate this confusing process!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The individual has received a Non-B visa for teaching in Thailand and has several questions regarding the next steps. They inquire about their employer applying for the work permit, the ability to start teaching before the work permit is issued, requirements for leaving Thailand within the 90-day validity, obligations after the 90 days, and the different visa needs for their young daughter who holds a Non-O visa. Community responses clarify that the employer should apply for the work permit, it is advisable to wait until it is issued before starting work, a re-entry permit is needed if they leave Thailand, extensions can be applied for before the original visa expires, and their daughter's requirements can be aligned with the parents' visa extension.

@Sc***
, sorry but you can't post links like that on the group.

We do NOT allow links to companies inside thailand that offer visa services at immigration offices here.

@Sc***
I know I read the article IT was good, and if they didn't have links to their visa services I'd leave it up.

ok no prob , it was just a article that i saw and they answer some of the questions people are asking No worries ;)

Glad, you got the 90 day single entry visas (y)

IF you leave the country during this 90 days you'd need a re-entry permit to keep the 'stamp' alive. When you return to thailand you'd get stamped in for the same expiration date.

You need to contact your employer and arrange the documentation for a year extension of stay at the immigration office where you live.

ONCE you have that you get your child's Non-O extended to match your extension.

So helpful. THANK YOU!

And yes, your employer will HAVE to get you a work permit because you're not gonna get an extension without it

The work permit was already applied for - WP.1 form submitted - or you could not get the B Visa

@Robert ******
- if it is not used it is not abused. And as you know Krabi Labor Ministry has for quite a while required proof of exit via photos of exit and entry stamps before acceptance of the WP.3 So that scenario is history.
Robert *******
Don't visit as applicant Krabi MOL, if you use WP3. I've seen complete applications being filed in the garbage bin by an angry manager.

@Robert ******
- You have twisted logic. A significant reason for using the WP.3 is to deal the rule that people in Thailand on Non Imm. O Visas / Extensions cannot by rule apply for a Work Permit nor for a B Visa. Such people go to a neighbor country to apply for a B Visa using the WP.3 to get started - in the same manner as some people on Tourist Visas go to places like KL to get a B Visa. There is nothing abusive about using a valid and approved menthod of obtaining a WP / B Visa utilizing a WP. 3 Application form designed for that very purpose.
Robert *******
As I said, it is NOT a requirement to get this visa.

@Robert ******
- I know what they are but do not see how this person got a B Visa without a WP.1 application being submitted to the Labor Ministry and the "suvcessfully" accepted WP.1 with the Labor Ministry official form letter being in the B Visa Application folder.
Robert *******
WP1 is the application method for a foreigner inside Thailand holding a Visa that allows a person to work with the work permit. This person just got his Non B outside Thailand, so this method could not be used. Application method WP3 is for foreigner outside Thailand, most of the time "abused" to help foreigners inside Thailand without correct visa.
Joe ***********
@Robert ******
- how about the WP.1!

I tgought every B Visa Application had to have an WP.1 / WP.3 / WP.x marked as having been received by the Labor Ministry and an official Labor Ministry letter saying same
Robert *******
For the Non Immigrant B Visa for teaching the WP3 form is not required.

1. Yes.

2. Technically no, but almost everyone does.

3. Get a re-entry permit.

4.No. The non-B will converted to an Extension at Immigration in Thailand.

5. You can add your daughter as your dependent once you get your Extension.
Robert *******
1) Yes, you should get your work permit before you start working. 2)No, wait till work permit is there 3) If you leave you have to buy the re-entry permit at Immigration or airport before you pass passport control. 4) 30 days before Admitted to Stay you can apply for an Extension of Stay with papers from the school at local Immigration.5) Yes, you can apply for her Extension of Stay also 30 days before the last day of Admitted to Stay or just don't. Children till 15 years of age are not fined for overstay.

I was able to work and be on payroll, with 90 day business visa, while my WP was processing. I don’t know if this makes a difference, but I am not a teacher.
Robert *******
They need copies from your passport and lots of other documents but you keep the passport in your pocket.

Great. Last question: do we have to surrender our passport to them while it's being processed? Or is it separate from the passport?
Robert *******
Depending on the amount of applications at your local office. I never waited longer than a week after application here in Krabi.
