ORIGINAL POSTER
Hi, we are getting ready to go to Vientiane for my husbands Non B for teaching. The school originally said they would process a marriage follow visa for me. I assumed it was at the same time so I made an appointment with the consulate as well. Now they are saying they may not be able to until gets his work permit. Urg I guess I can get a 60 day tourist and then extend it. Will I have to leave the country again? Is it not possible to get my marriage follow visa at the same time? I'm so confused. Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses a woman's confusion regarding her visa options while her husband is obtaining a Non-B visa for teaching in Thailand. She initially anticipated being able to apply for a marriage follow visa simultaneously but was informed that she must wait until her husband receives his work permit. Comments suggest alternative solutions, including obtaining a visa on arrival and then extending it or applying for the marriage follow visa after the husband completes three months and receives his work permit.

so u can do tourist for two months then do under the extension u need to have your marriage cert stamped and certified by the embassy of your country this is a must!!
Carlein *******
Can apply inside country after he recieve visa and permit for 60 day then u can follow.
Carlein *******
Not if the first time but these rules are for Inside the country my husband had to have visa and permit first time 60 days then we could apply inside on the next year we can do with him

@Carlein ******
and are you SURE that they cannot apply for the single entry Non-O visa at the same time the husband is applying for the single entry Non-B visa at the thai consulate in Vientiane?
Carlein *******
@Tod ********
so the moral to my stories us if she comes in on tourist visa once he get the year visa she can do inside the country without leaving again
Tod *********
@Carlein ******
should be able to (it's up to that immigration office because some offices won't issue in country Non-Imm visas)
Carlein *******
@Tod ********
this is I side Thailand not sure about outside

@Carlein ******
right inside the country they have to wait until the spouse gets the year extension on their Non-B then they can apply for the Non-O piggy back visa
Ellie *******
@Carlein ******
, OP's husband would be stamped for 90 days, not 60 days.

You can only get your visa once your husband has completed his first 3 months and received his work permit (book). I would recommend getting a visa on arrival and then to go back to Laos again in 2 to 3 months.
Ellie *******
@Christopher *****
, OP should be able to apply for Non-O dependent on Non-B applicant at the same time at the embassy/consulate in another country. What you are talking is when applying Non-O dependent to a foreigner with permission of stay (Non-B, Non-ED, etc) at the local immigration office INSIDE Thailand.

@Ellie ******
no I went to Laos get both a non b for my wife and a non o for me. I had my marriage certificate and the needed documents from my wife employer

strange indeed, ๐Ÿ™

@Christopher *****
are you 100% sure this is how Vientiane handles this situation?

I ask because I believe I remember people posting that they were able to get BOTH visas issued at the same time, (seeing as they are both just for 90 days).
Christopher ******
@Tod ********
this is how I tied mine last week. Because if I am not mistaken if it is your first time applying for a non b you will only have the wp3 letter from your employer. Once you receive your official book and received your one year extension you can apply for the non o.
Tod *********
@Christopher *****
right you apply for the Non-B with the WP-3 application of having applied for the work permit

and you TRIED to apply for both the initial 90 day Non-B and the 90 day Non-O (trailing spouse) at the same time with the marriage certificate, the letter from the employer stating it's okay if the spouse "piggy backs" and were denied
Christopher ******
@Tod ********
yes that is correct. I wasn't denied they just told me to come back once my wife has her 1 year extension
Tod *********
@Christopher *****
if they didn't let you apply right then when your wife did you were indeed denied at least on that try ๐Ÿ˜•
Christopher ******
@Tod ********
they took our documents and on the second day I received a call stating that my wife must have her 1 year visa. But I will go back in November. Luckily we get two months on arrival
Christopher ******
@Tod ********
my wife was not denied her non b but they said I should come back after 3 months for the non o
Tod *********
@Christopher *****
wow, that is indeed unusual

Consulates have been known to issue both visas at the same time (seeing as they're both 90 day single entry).

You had the marriage certificate, the letter from the employer stating it was okay to sell you a Non-O piggy back to your wifes Non-B and everything?

Quite strange indeed ๐Ÿ˜• sorry about that

Thanx for the update
Christopher ******
@Tod ********
yes I tried because I also thought it worked like that. Maybe I was just out of luck.
Tod *********
@Christopher *****
could be they just changed policy without letting any one know.

Really thank you for taking time to explain what happened, I appreciate you doing it (y)

I guess Alyse is out nothing by trying and worst case she can come back free stamp entry, then either go back and try again after her husband gets the year extension OR get the in country Non-O at the immigration office
Christopher ******
@Tod ********
it is my pleasure. Been living here for 6 years and things are always changing. In Hat Yai you can't even get your non o anymore you must leave the country.
