Hi, I am about to get my visa Non B(teaching) single entry for 3 months in Penang.

After getting the visa,

1- How long does it take for my employer to get the work permit?

2- With that work permit and visa, can I get an extension of stay based on that visa at my local immigration office?

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is obtaining a single entry Non-B visa for teaching in Thailand and is inquiring about the timeline for their employer to secure a work permit and whether they can extend their stay at a local immigration office using that visa. Responses indicate that obtaining a work permit can take anywhere from 1 to 9 days depending on various factors, and achieving a visa extension seems contingent on having competent employer support without the necessity of being a shareholder.

For employees getting an alternate 12 month multi-entry B Visa in Penang instead of the one year extension of stay at immigration is no longer possible. The 20% share factor I read about is rare - if ever.

Your employer getting the Work Permit (from the Ministry of Labor) can range from 1-2 days 4-5 days to 7-9 days)...depending on jurisdiction and other factors.

With competent employer staff or contractor getting the one year extension of stay (after getting the B Visa 90 days and WP) should go smoothly enough.

Thank you Joseph for your answer!

For the visa extension, does it matter if I am just an employee or do I also need to have a 20% shareholder?
