I teach at an international school in Thailand, my husband is coming to join me in July. He is also a teacher however currently he does not have a teaching job. If he comes over on a spouse visa is it possible/easy to get a work permit and non b visa whilst he is still in the country if he got a teaching job at a later date? Or would he need to leave and complete the process from the uk like I did before I came to Thailand?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A spouse can enter Thailand on a Non Immigrant O visa as a dependent, but he must leave the country to apply for a Non-B visa and work permit unless all necessary documents are ready for a change of status within Thailand. Visa runs to nearby countries such as Laos are options for this process, and it’s not necessary for him to return to the UK.

Excellent ☺️ Thank you everyone!

He can get a non-b in any nearby country as long as his employer supplies the right paperwork :)

IF he is coming into Thailand with the Non Immigrant O visa based on being a dependent of you as working inside Thailand, he can not change his visa status inside Thailand. He has to leave to a nearby Thai Consulate and apply for a visa.

As said a nearby country.

ok but it doesn’t have to be the uk?

He may also be able to do a change of status within Thailand if all of the documents are ready to do so.

If not then a quick visa run to Laos to get his non-B will take care of that problem.

He will NOT have to return to the UK for a non-B.

He can do it in Laos
