Hi, first post so apologies if its in the wrong place or not correct format. My friend has a 60 day SETV from UK and will stay with his girlfriend who rents a room. The landlord has said that he wont register him as its "too much trouble". Any advice on how to do the TM30 in these circumstances please? The immigration office is Samut Prakan not BKK. He also wants to do a 30 day extension on this visa. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks advice on how a friend can handle the TM30 registration process since their landlord refuses to help. Despite the challenges, responses suggest considering alternative accommodations like hotels that automatically register guests. If the 24-hour registration window has passed, it may lead to fines, but visiting the immigration office might clarify options for an extension or further steps regarding the landlord's refusal.
and as this is another TM30 question the REAL answer is have him and his g/f GO to the immigration office in Samut Prakan and find out what's what.. Good Luck (y)
samut prakan is HARD CORE about a TM30 to get any extension. BUT how about not panicking until they come to thailand, go to the immigration office and find out what they can do if the land lord doesn't want to file a TM30?
Brian Edgington Well, if they refuse to accept that, whilst asking for an extension at the same time (the time is added to the current admitted to stay stamp, so no problem doing it at the same time) then they could fine him for not doing one or not allow the extension. Personally, I think they’ll accept his girlfriend doing the TM30 seeing as she’s the one renting the room and is the one responsible for reporting that a foreigner is staying there. People will say it’s the property owner but there’s leeway in the rules for the ‘possessor’ to do it. In the end, it comes down to the immigration office and how they see that.
If she’s got time, it might be worth her going to the immigration office and asking them if she can register the TM30. If not, then maybe he could book a hotel for the first night to get the TM30 done IF he needs a TM30 to get his extension there.
A few ifs and buts there but I reckon that’s just how it is 😊
Seeing as you say he “will stay with his girlfriend” it looks like the 24 hour period hasn’t passed yet. He could try going to immigration within that 24 hour period with his girlfriend, copies of her lease/rental agreement, ID card, house book listing and she could try registering him on a TM30 as she may be regarded as the ‘possessor’ as mentioned in the TM30 rules.
I’d say he’s out nothing by trying that. They might accept it, they might not.
without help of the landlord it becomes difficult, your friend has to talk again with him and explain better, but the harm is properly done as the first 24 hours has past anyway. So a fine will be in place. Alternative leave the place, stay in hotel and make sure you get registered by the hotel and search for another place who does not think it is to much trouble to collect rent.
He is not in Thailand yet so no problem yet. The gf pays rent to the landlord and this is the first time my friend has stayed there . She has asked him to register him when he arrives but he says no so far
