What should my friend do after realizing he's on a 7-day overstay in Thailand before applying for a DTV visa in Hanoi?

Asking for a friend who has just realised that he read his exit stamp wrong and is now on 7 days of overstay already.

His plan was to apply for DTV in Hanoi next week and was just finalising all the paperwork.

What's his best plan of action now? Does he just head straight to the airport and pay the fine when leaving? I'm assuming he doesn't want to try and sort anything at the local immigration office?

Will the overstay affect DTV application at all? He's had an exemplary record up until this mistake.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user has a friend who realized he overstayed his visa in Thailand by 7 days. He planned to apply for a DTV visa in Hanoi soon and is looking for the best action to take now. Community responses suggest that he should immediately exit Thailand, either going to the airport and paying any fines there, or visiting the local immigration office to extend his stay and pay the overstay penalty. There's concern about how the overstay might affect his upcoming DTV application.

Go immigration to extend for 30 days at 1,900 and pay for the 7 days of overstay ASAP.

He needs to exit and not get caught before the airport, and pay the fine. or he’ll be deported and banned.
