What should my friend do about his 5-day overstay on a visa exempt entry in Thailand before his flight home?

Hello,

My friend travelled here from Canada on a 30 day visa exempt stamp and we just realized he's overstayed his visa. The last day of his stamp was April 4, but his flight home is on the 11th. Should we go to immigration and try to get an extension, or just wait as there's only 3 days until he flies home?

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is asking for advice regarding their friend's overstay situation in Thailand. The friend entered Thailand with a 30-day visa exempt stamp that expired on April 4. With a flight scheduled for April 11, the options discussed include visiting immigration to apply for an extension at a cost of around 3900 baht or not doing anything and just waiting to fly home, which could result in a 3500 baht fine for a 7-day overstay. Comments emphasize the importance of avoiding any trouble with immigration before leaving.

Well if he shows up tomorrow at the immigration office (as they're closed today) he'll have a 5 day overstay of 2000baht and pay 1900baht for the extension, so 3900baht

OR

He can keep his head down and not run amuck until he gets to the airport on the 11th and pay a 7 day overstay of 3500baht

That's their choice,

It's not the overstay that is the problem it's getting caught out on something else while on overstay that causes people to come off the rails ๐Ÿ˜•
