hey guys, i need advice. i unintentionally overstayed as i was under the impression that i could be in thailand visa-free up to 90 days with a singapore passport only to find out it's 90 days (multiple entries) within 6 months and only up till 30 days (single entry). i already have a ticket back this weekend, but i would've overstayed for about 27 days. i just found out today when my friend asked & decided to check... what should i do now?
should i go to the immigration office tomorrow or just wait it out till end of the week and pay a fine at the airport? im kinda worried as this is the first time something like that has happened to me so im not sure what to expect :(

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Singapore passport holder has unintentionally overstayed their visa in Thailand by 27 days, misunderstandings about the visa regulations led to this situation. The individual is seeking advice on whether to go to the immigration office or pay the overstay fine at the airport before departure. Comments from the community suggest various approaches: some recommend going directly to the airport to pay the fine, while others advise contacting immigration to handle the situation. Concerns about potential legal repercussions are raised, but many emphasize the importance of maintaining a polite and calm demeanor.
apologise. wai wai wai . you won't escape the fine but if it is your first time and you have the right attitude you won't get blacklisted .
sorry for you š

Just go to airport...while immigration counter, officer will ask you to pay fine 500 per day. Pay your fine, get a receipt and depart to your country..but beware to be caught before.

Straight to the airport. Don't get into trouble /arrested beforehand. Make sure you have the cash ready when you arrive at the airport immigration. Cash, apologetic behaviour and you should be fine.

I'd talk with an agent and try to sort it out, failing this the airport with the funds and a little extra.

Just go to airport as planned pay the fine hope they don't document your overstay and I believe cash is the main language spoken there besides thai Chokh di

Hey guys thanks for all the comments and help! Really appreciate it, another question I have is, is it possible to pay the fine via credit card or prompt pay? š
I would go to the airport and play dumb (tell them you only saw it the night before as you were checking your ticket). If you go to immigration then you're admitting to breaking the law, and like in any country there's a good chance they'll detain you and hold you until you're deported.
While if you're at the airport and pretend you misunderstood the rules (which probably happens a lot), and you're leaving anyway, it's way easier for them to fine you and send you on your way than to detain you and deal with all that paperwork. Especially now that they want to attract tourists they don't want to make a scene either. Just look scared and upset, if it's your first time they'll probably let you off easy.

My advice would be to read and understand the limitations on visa that you obtained and if you had then you would not find yourself in this unfortunate position.
given that the readers have no knowledge about the qualifications/veracity of the posters and we are being given multiple conflicting reports... What is your source of knowledge on this?

Overstaying your date in your passport is breaking the law.
Many times on here people ask is it ok to overstay - 1, 2, 5 days etc. The fine at the immigration exit desk is 500 baht per day of overstay. Some immigration officers will waive the fine if it is only 1 day, but youāll still get a red stamp in your passport.
HoweVer if you are stopped inside the country for any reason - like at a police check point - even on your way to airport or border crossing then be prepared for a whole lot of trouble.
The police may arrest you as you have broken the law. If they do youāll be fined in court and then sent to the nearest Immigration Detention Centre, where you will be kept until you buy a one way ticket back to your home country. If you donāt have the funds for that you will be kept there until you find some means of raising those funds. Once you have your ticket, you will be deported and blacklisted from entering the country for up to 5 years.
Sounds dramatic but it sometimes happens. 500 baht a day sounds cheaper than 1900 baht at a local immigration office but in the overall scheme of things it is never wise to overstay.
Well said Brian and I might add a few other details that might help... First dress formal or clean business casual at the very least and be on your best POLITE and CALM behavior when in the Immigration Office. I would also recommend bringing someone you trust who has been in Thailand a few years, so to be prepared for any unforseen things that might arise when you are at the Immigration. There are a few other details that might be of assistance, so you are welcome to PM me if you think you could use more info. Shoke dee na khrap = Best of luck

Just pay in the airport. You will pay 500 baht per day or 13,500 baht for 27 days overstay.. No need to get worried as you have a ticket going home.

Amazing how canāt count & have no real 1st hand experience but still chime in

no worries, just go to the airport for your departure and pay 500each day of ovetstay...if you have overstayed over 20days...dont worry only just pay...do not go to the immigration dept. Just depart at the airport all can be done.

I was 1 day overstay and got pulled to one side and made to feel that I had overstayed a whole lot more, no fine but got a black mark written on my passport,. That was 2019, but just got a 60 day (extendable by 30) day Evisa in uk for my next trip,.
you will not get ālocked upā or āpassport holdedā if you go to an immigration office. You could have issues if stopped on the way to an airport or immigration office.

I friend had an overstayed by mistake and 10k at an agent got it sorted... Better than black listed..

13,500THB fine at airport and the chance of getting black listed and banned.
Better off going to immigration now and surrendering as an illegal immigrant. You may get lucky if you say sorry and give some very deep Wai's.
the parameters at present I think are still no ban for under 90 days. They wonāt deviate from that. Over 90 days and you can be banned for a year, but for the average traveller, they arenāt coming back to Thailand in a year anyway.
Isn't that the nicest thing you want to hear when asking for advise on here... What a genius comment that is and by the way, that statement is Totally absurd and unfounded.
Another thoughtless and unfounded fear mongering comment... The first option is to REinstate your Status at the Immigration office... They will ask you to pay 500 Bahts per day Overstay fine and ask for the 7 day Extension (costs 1900 Bahts) which will take you until your departure flight, but since you only have a few days left, you can also consider going straight to the airport, BUT keep in mind that having any dealings with the Police during those few days could get you in tonnes of trouble, so try to be good for a few more day. Also as mention previously, if you are considering going to the Immigration Office and same goes for the day of your Flight, make sure to dress professional similar to going on an interview. Let me know if you need more info.

We had a similar dimwit with a hot temper in school, so we decided to tell him that pissing in the wind is really good for cooling down and it worked... 555
Always better to volunteer yourself in this situation and pay the overstay fine than get arrested and go through the process that way.
Most IO's will be more understanding if you approach them first.
Good luck.

Trying to work out what visa you actually have. There is no 90 days multiple entry that gives you 30 days on arrival. Can you post a picture (obscuring any personal details).
Andy *********
Lay low and take the flight you bought a ticket for in 5 days.
You will not get a backdated extension
(nor will anyone else ever).

hey, i didnt get any visa entering becus i thought i could stay for up to 90 days. only realise there's a date stamped on my passport now till 24 oct. :'(
sorry what do u mean by this? I can still get a visa backdated? Iām just unsure if I can still get a visa for the remaining days Iām here (just another 5 more days) considering that Iāve already overstayedā¦
if you go to immigration now they will fine you and you must either leave or apply for extension. The only extension you were eligible for was a 30 day extension, so if they let you apply for that then it will be effective back when your initial stamp ran out of days, it won't be effective from the day you apply. So do the math to figure out when it would end

Hey thanks ok, so if Iām understanding this correctly I will still have to pay the fine + extension of visa (backdated).
hey yes, i think the issue is... if i showed up tomorrow and paid for the fine, will i still be able to fly back on the day i bought my ticket or will they force me to get on the next flight? im wondering if i can still apply for a visa extension for the next 5 days im here or just pay the fine till the date im supposed to leave which is on the 20th.
the most time you can get is a backdated 30 day extension, which would make 60 days in total. If your flight is after that you'll go into overstay again
Ah ok. You entered visa exempt prior to October 1st and got a 30 day stamp on arrival. Not much you can do other than go to a local immigration office and pay the fine of 500 baht per day. You could wait until your flight out, but you seriously do not want to get caught at a police check point before you get to the airport.
