⚠️ warning ⚠️

When booking with Qatar Airlines

Canceled the first part of my return flight

Bangkok - Doha

Changed the flight of the 2nd part of the flight Doha - Munich

I booked directly with the airline.

Sent me a mail (see below). I decided to ask for a refund received 55,04€ from Qatar airlines which is a fraction of what I paid.

I have sent e-mails (ignored) called the Helpdesk on 2 separate occasions and after spending a crazy amount of time on hold they could not explain why I received

so little but said it did seem unreasonable and they would look into it (it’s been well over 2 months).

I finally got an answer back from them via Facebook and they are refusing to give my full refund as promised in the e-mail below.

E-mail from Qatar Airways

Dear valued customer,

We are reaching out to inform you that unfortunately, your booking has been cancelled due to operational reasons and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

You can benefit from our flexible rebooking policy and change your travel date or destination free of charge within the same booking class (fare difference may apply), or request a refund for the value of your ticket to the original form of payment with no penalties or refund fees*.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user expresses frustration after Qatar Airways canceled part of their return flight and issued a significantly low refund. Despite attempts to communicate with customer service, they received vague responses and no resolution. The discussion highlights others' similar experiences with airlines, urging alternatives such as social media outreach and regulatory complaints for better chances of compensation. Multiple comments reflect on airline policies and customer dissatisfaction, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency in flight cancellations and refunds.

I'm speechless! I landed on 27 January and discovered that the one wheel of my suitcase was completely broken off. I reported it at the airport and received an email a couple of day later, with a reference number. Two weeks ago, I wasted my airtime to phone them and they promised me that the matter was elevated. Yesterday I phoned again and this time they had no record of the incident!? Best airline in the world my bloody arse! The most pathetic, definitely!

Lost my baggage upon arrival, was not given any options for an overnite bag or allowance while they traced it. 2 days later I was told I would be compensated for reasonable costs and given a number but was not able to get through to any Thailand number. I submitted my claim, followed up several times but no response. Eventually my bag turned up and I still haven't received any sort of conpensation

@Rajiv ******
that sounds pretty much how these clowns operate!
Mark ***********
Boycott them for life. This kind of selective refund is unacceptable. Stop the support. Return to civilized airlines.
Danny *****
The prices they’re charging too is absolutely ridiculous. Manchester to Bangkok is under £1k, return for economy. Literally doubled in price.

Maybe contact the credit card company through which you paid. They may be able to do something.

I had a similar problem a few years ago with Swiss airlines, after the run around I called my bank and they refunded me the amount via the card I used to purchase the ticket!

@James ****
was it a debit card or credit card?
James *****
@Roderick ************
debit card from Australia, bank of Melbourne.. they were very helpful and did it straight away!

They did this to me and charged me £317 .

They said full refund and lied and they say its company policy assholes.

Wont fly with them again

you right, they charge me around 100 E when I ask for a voucher, this voucher is supposed to be what you paid more 10 %

Some months ago i have entered Qatar's Covid promo, where you were cancelling and receiving paid price + 10 % as a credit, to be used on the following 2 years.

I did it to extend last Covid19 Thai visa, and worked great.

@Lisandro ******
I did the same and got a voucher but this voucher is not what I paid, they exclude some taxes and fees I guess

I only canceled my way back from Jkt to bru maybe it's why

Little bit less than 10%

I didn't mind, as Covid visa extension was possible, and voucher lasting for two years.

The towelhead airlines are not the issue. It's all airlines since covid, my god when will people understand this?

I fly a lot, I’m Frequent Flyer at Star Alliance & Oneworld.
@Singapore *********
for example refunded me in may last year, after 24 hours. With Etihad I’m waiting since October. And it seems that they don’t pay and just say yes we pay soon.
Edgar ************
All airlines do this now. Ethics were thrown out the window when that fake flu came along. The days of airline accountability are GONE. Irrespective of which airline you fly with. It's a fraudulent extortion racket, not a business.
Kev **********
@Roderick ************
so the people who died of what you call fake flu.. exactly what did they die of. And if it was fake how come all of the doctors pharmacists etc were fooled??
Ruth *******
@Kev *********
please don’t let him take you down this rabbit hole. We’ve been doing this bs for nearly 3 years now. The argument will go nowhere and it’s irrelevant to the OP. He just wants to pull you in. Don’t let him do it.
Edgar ************
@Kev *********
The people who died would have died from a breeze of wind. They were all chronically ill, extremely old (85+) and dying.

I've never met or heard of a single person even being hospitalized in a REAL WORLD example. We see endless crap on the news about deaths and made up statistics, but you would think I would know a single person who at least went to hospital by now? Nope. Not a single one.

Edgar ************
@Jeff *******
If anything, covid itself is a conspiracy. As mentioned, I've never known a single person who's even been hospitalized. There's way more deadly shit out there, it's bizarre we focused on this one flu when there's a million worse health burdens to worry about.
Jeff ********
What a kook.

If you CHOOSE to ignore the data, that's your issue. Just stick your head back in the sand. No one cares about your consipiracy ideas. @Jeff *******
Data from government and fake news media which have categorically proven to be untrustworthy time and time again are not reliable.

The definition of covid death was deliberately changed to push the count higher, it's what's known as a manufactured crisis. I'm sorry if you believe you lost a loved one to covid, but it's more likely that they died of other causes and the hospital lied. Try to be more open minded, I know it's hard with the brainwashing and reinforcement of the same artificial narrative.
Jeff ********
@Ned *******
provide evidence to support your lame claims or stfu. "Deliberately changed." Proof? I think not.
Jeff ********
@Ned *******
lmao.. you're a trip. Where do you think data comes from? Of course governments support institutions to help thwart a virus, for the betterment of humankind everywhere. Grow the f*ck up.

You're not very bright are you? Where did you get an education? Obviously not a public school cuz the government hates you apparently. Home schooled and youtube videos. Get your head out of your ass and see the world. Travel a little bit. Learn. Read a book. Learn how data is accumulated and processed. Are you an anarchist? Clearly you lack critical thinking skills.

they’re nullified when someone speaks of something not relevant just to rant about his favorite issue while also showing just how much he’s been swept into the conspiracy web. Yeah, it’s nullified.
Whitt *******
@Ruth ******
you missed the biggest point about holding airlines accountable. If you can't stay on topic, then you've nullified yourself.
Edgar ************
@Ruth ******
Not relevant? The biggest disruption to the commercial aviation industry in world history? The sole cause was a wild overreaction to a wuhan lab flu. It couldn't be more relevant, you belligerent, inept excuse of a human being.

fees*.. That's where you get nailed. The " * " means you are gonna Pay....
Lisa ********************
If Qatar cancelled part of your flight back to EU, you can claim EU compensation, which should be €600. And claim on your travel insurance too.
Ricky ******
@Lisa *******************
The €600 max only applies to foreign based airlines for flights from the EU, not for flights to the EU, is my understanding. Of course I could be wrong. I have been compensated for a BA flight to the UK and a Thai Airways flight from the UK.
Lisa ********************
@Ricky *****
it's for any flight due to land or takeoff in the EU or Britain atm.
Yaakov *******
They do this when they reschedule the flight - it doesn't necessarily mean that the flight is cancelled. Their wording is unfortunately confusing.

If that's the case indeed, when you log to their website, you should see an option to confirm the change.

Happened to me twice, the flight was delayed by a few hours each time.
Brandon ************
You say return flight. So did you purchase a roundtrip flight, take the first half to Bangkok, and now trying to cancel just the return half back? If that's the case then it's pretty normal to not get much money back since you already used half the itinerary.
Kevin ********
ORIGINAL POSTER
@Brandon ***********
yes round trip but Qatar canceled the return flight and not me
Janne ***********
@Kevin *******
rebook to another flight for same day, or another day, no fee to do that since they have adjusted their flights, or cancelation due maintenance.
Brandon ************
@Kevin *******
then you rebook or get tiny refund. It's normal
Kevin ********

Brandon ************
@Kevin *******
how do you calculate the value of something that's already been used? That's your problem. You expect it to be 50% but that's not how it works.

Most of the value of the ticket is used up as soon as a part of the ticket is used. That's how every airline works. If you hadn't used the ticket at all you'd get a full refund. To just try and refund a part of the ticket is pretty much a waste of time. It should be rebooked or expect little to nothing.
Andy *********
@Brandon ***********
We flew Singapore Air to Bangkok early last year. Decided to return home early. We found it was impossible to change the ticket date as we could not contact the Bangkok office as it was closed. We followed their online process, but the airlines never responded except for automated messages. Tried for 5 weeks, no luck. This was April/May. Finally got a 50% refund in December last year. It was October before a human actually contacted us.
Garrett ***********
Send them a message on FB messenger. They're pretty quick to respond there, handeled a refund for me couple years ago.
Sam *******
@Garrett **********
Correct, in general when you find a public page and you have a “real” problem resolution is definitely better and quicker. Companies don’t like bad press on Social Media they know it can essentially kill business if it goes even a little viral

Qatar also gave me a hard time 2 years ago but eventually issued a full refund.
J *************************
@Gregory ********
you are a very lucky man. Their customer relations department is non existing.

@J ************************
Yes, it's terrible. I talked to a rep in person at their office in Doha while transferring there
J *************************
@Gregory ********
I tried the same, but was told that they can't help me. The person took my booking reference and told me that they'll escalate the matter. Yesterday I phoned about my damaged luggage and was also told that the matter will be escalated. Needless to say, I didn't hear a word from them in both instances. Hahaha, the best airline in the world! Useless isn't the word!
Greg *********
@J ************************
Keep on them. I filed a dispute with Visa (credit card).
J *************************
@Gregory ********
I bought the tickets three years ago, I doubt it that they'll be able to refund me now?
Martin *********
If you paid via credit card talk to your credit card provider and also any regulatory body in your own county
Tom *********
British Airways just as SHITE SERVICE £540 paid for ticket to Antigua from London. Tried to chsnge flight could not contact their "customer shite service" or reservations at all since 11 days before the flight to change it. Then they logged us as "No Show" and ONE YEAR LATER im still waiting for a refund. Fkin Diabolickle service !!!
Jan *******
Emirates, Etihad, Qatar - it’s all the same if you have problems - you are lost.

European flight law is usually not valid, so they do nothing.
Martin *********
@Jan ******
they must come under the European Union registration if they operate a office
Jan *******
@Martin ********
A flight is only under european law if :

it starts or lands in europe and

if it’s the longer part of the journey.

so - Singapore to Dohar (8 hours) and then Dohar to Munich (6 hours) = no european law

that’s what i learned the hard way during covid 🙂
Jim **********
you should post on their own sites on every media platform they are using (FB, Twitter etc) and keep posting it
J *************************
@Jim *********
hahaha, you're waisting your time! The clown who handles their Fb account, is as thick skinned and useless as the whole lot of them. First they stole a return ticket from me and then the damage my suitcase and I can't get anything out of them!
