Hi. My current visa & WP ( from previous employer ) expires 16 may, while my new employer is preparing the documents for my new WP & Visa.

The proper way is to cancel my old work permit and apply for the new on THE SAME DAY. Hope fully It would be done the same way,

BUT I need to look all the possible scenarios so if in case my new employer couldnt complete the documents on 16 May, what should I do in this case?

Is it fine if I overstay a day or two? and once the documents are completed, say on 17 or 18 May and we go to apply fornew WP & visa,

OR

should I take the 7 days extension ? ( but I have heard after taking 7 days, no one gets any kind of extesnion even If having a job & all the required documents, don’t know its true info or not)

In case if I choose the first option, OVERSTAYING 1 or 2 days,

Would this overstay make any problems while we apply for the new WP & visa extension?

Sorry for such a long post.

TIA 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about their visa and work permit expiring while awaiting visa documentation from a new employer. They seek advice on whether it's acceptable to overstay by a day or two, or if they should apply for a 7-day extension. Comments suggest various options, such as doing a border bounce for visa exemption, emphasizing the importance of coordination between employers, the Ministry of Labor, and immigration, and warning against planning to overstay.

If your new employer is not ready by then, and you qualify for a visa exemption, you can do a border bounce and get potentially 60 days more for your employer to finish whatever they need. You are not allowed to start work with the new employer until the new WP is done anyway.

The current work permit and your extension of stay need to be cancelled on the last day of working, in theory you can apply directly for a new extension of stay with all documents from your new employer. But this needs a very good coordination between both employers, Ministry of Labor and the Immigration Office, in theory this works, practical it does not. Most go out the country, get a tourist visa till new employer has all the documents and start the process again.

I believe it depends on immigration office if you can apply new extension of stay for new WP with new employer when you are overstay.

"7 days to leave from extension denied" is not extension any more, so you cannot apply extension during this period.

Do you have a Non-B visa or an extension of stay which you obtained in Thailand?
