Hi all, my WP and visa will end by Dec 21 and I will not work anymore. I plan to switch to dependent visa under my husband. I will fly out of Thailand on Dec 22.
I asked in another forum and I've been informed that BOI/ labor dept will issue a letter to allow me to stay 7 days after my visa's expiration date.
However when I asked HR in my office, she said differently (she could misunderstood my case though). She said, as per update on 1 Jan 18, I need to apply for another visa immediately. Or pay overstay 500 thb per day.
Do you know more information with regard to my case?
Thank you very much.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is transitioning from a work visa to a dependent visa under their husband, with their current visa expiring on Dec 21. They are seeking clarity on whether they can apply for a 7-day extension after their visa expires or if they need to obtain another visa immediately to avoid overstaying penalties. Comments suggest they should cancel their work permit first and possibly purchase a 7-day extension if necessary.
Okay, you need to go cancel your work permit then take that receipt AND paperwork from your company to the immigration office and cancel your extension of stay. THEN you either BUY a 7 day stamp that gives you a week to get out of thailand for 1900baht OR you leave that day.
go the week before and cancel your work permit, then take paperwork from your company stating you stop work on the 22 and go to the immigration office and cancel your extension. then on the 22 just leave..
eventhough my WP and Visa validity is only until Dec 21, can my company state that I stop work on Dec 22? Doesn't my company have to pay for the extention (visa/WP) if they say that I will work until Dec 22?
there's no one day extension, BUT you could get documentation from your company that says you're stopping work on the date you're flying out and then the immigration office will cancel your current extension and stamp you in until that date. PLUS you don't have to wait until that day to go cancel the extension you can do it a week or so early and will be stamped in until the date on the paperwork..
