Hello dear people!
My situation is as follows:
I've got a work permit and an extension of stay based on that work permit with my old employer. Both are actually valid till Dec 2020.
But I finished my contract with my old employer. Therefore I have to give back my work permit and cancel my extension of stay around 5th october.
But, lucky as I am, I've found a new job. My new employer wants to give me the work permit and visa/extension of stay, which is great. The not so great thing: He wants to wait for the application of the work permit & extension of stay till November/December.
I know that after cancel the workpermit & extension of stay, I can apply for a 7 day extension, which isn't enough in my case.
That means, I'm without visa/extension of stay from October till December.
The only way I've found so far to stay in Thailand, is to request a letter from my embassy (austrian) and go with that letter to the immigration, which hopefully will give me an extension till december.
Normally the austrian embassy doesn't issue any letters, but in my case they will consider it, if I send them a proof of my new employer - so the letter is in the making.
My questions:
1) If it works out to get the letter from my embassy and get the extension from the immigration, will it work out to apply for the workpermit & extension of stay with my new employer in december? Or will there be any hidden problems, like I cannot change from the "extension of stay with the letter" to an extension if stay based on work?
2) Are there any other options for that 2-3 months periode without visa/extension of stay which I'm missing?
I'm pretty aware that I need to go to the immigration to get a accurate answer. That's also what I'll be doing.
But I would like to have some other opinions, thoughts, advice or maybe another option on that matter. That would be so great.
Thanks a lot in advance ๐
Best, keep on smiling
Melanie
TLDR : Answer Summary
A user shares their experience of transitioning between jobs in Thailand, facing visa challenges after ending a contract with their prior employer. While they can obtain a short extension through their embassy, they're concerned about potential issues when applying for a new work permit and extension later. They seek advice on managing an extended period without valid visa coverage and inquire about alternative solutions.
