Hi. My current visa & WP ( from previous employer ) expires 16 may, while my new employer is preparing the documents for my new WP & Visa.

The proper way is to cancel my old work permit and apply for the new on THE SAME DAY. Hope fully It would be done the same way,

BUT I need to look all the possible scenarios so if in case my new employer couldnt complete the documents on 16 May, what should I do in this case?

Is it fine if I overstay a day or two? and once the documents are completed, say on 17 or 18 May and we go to apply fornew WP & visa,

OR

should I take the 7 days extension ? ( but I have heard after taking 7 days, no one gets any kind of extesnion even If having a job & all the required documents, don’t know its true info or not)

In case if I choose the first option, OVERSTAYING 1 or 2 days,

Would this overstay make any problems while we apply for the new WP & visa extension?

Sorry for such a long post.

TIA 😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about their visa and work permit expiration date and the potential need to overstay if their new employer cannot complete the necessary documents in time. They inquire about the implications of overstaying for a day or two versus taking a 7-day extension, and how this might affect their future visa and work permit applications. Community members advise following immigration rules and suggest taking the extension to avoid complications from overstaying.

Garrett Greenwald I am changing jobs from one province to another, I dont think so I need documents from new employer when I go to cancel my extension. I guess I would need those documents in the new province’s immig.

Follow the rules. Get an extra 7 days. Extra 2 days is a fine and youll end up with a stamp in your passport stating you overstayed.

But can I apply for further extension (1 year, based on my contract) after getting those 7 days?
