Question I am now in isolation with Covid In a hotel, my visa runs out on the 19th but not allowed out till the 20th. I guess I will get an overstay stamp and fine unless we can get the hotel to do my paperwork, luck we have most of the paperwork as started to get things together just before go Covid. So question is what would the overstay stamp mean in the long run and is it easy for someone else to do the visa ( it will be just a 30 or 60 day visa) on my behalf.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently in isolation due to Covid-19, with a visa expiration date approaching. As they cannot leave the hotel until the day after the visa expires, they are concerned about potentially receiving an overstay stamp and related fines. Community responses advise contacting hotel staff and the affiliated medical personnel to assist with getting an extension of stay due to medical reasons to avoid overstay penalties. It's suggested to ensure that paperwork is completed before the visa expiration date to prevent complications.

All sorted now took the taxi bike man (friend) all day, as immigration wanted papers that we didn't have from hospital then the TM30 form from hotel, any way all done now 30 day visa time then to sort out retirement visa.

glad it worked out for you. I know of prior helpful support by your Thai Immigration Office. They do care and will help but as said...It's important to contact Thai Immigration before the end date of permitted stay.

And another helpful resource for expats who have tested positive for COVID and need advice on their medical choices and visa situations is to contact

Where in Thailand are you? Phuket immigration have been conducting hotel visits for this exact situation. You or your hotel need to contact immigration. If they do not know they can't help you.

I was told that a letter would be accepted by immigration. However that was not the case. I had a 1 day overstay and 500b fine. The only way is to get someone go on your behalf

I wasn't made aware if this. I was told to take it when I went to immigration to explain why I was late. Immigration actually said I should have come before I got covid as if I knew I was going to get it

The letter is accepted BEFORE you go into overstay, once in overstay there is no excuse.

>Question I am now in isolation with Covid In a hotel,

Is this mandatory isolation, or something you're doing on your own? If this is something you're doing on your own, you can leave as normal

> my visa runs out on the 19th but not allowed out till the 20th

Talk to the hospital your hotel is affiliated with to get a
*****
/90 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to medical reasons. The cost is 1,900 THB.

>So question is what would the overstay stamp mean in the long run

An overstay stamp may mean:

- You can not use certain consulates to get a tourist visa (I know one of the consulates in Malaysia do not allow people with overstay stamps to use the consulate).

- You might not be able to apply for an Thai elite visa

- You will have to pay a fine of 500THB a day

DO NOT GO ON OVERSTAY!

Contcat the reception, ask the medical staff to make the medical statement about your quarantine, give your passport, copies to the staff and they will visit on your behalf the Immigration Office to get an Extension of Stay.

Do not go into the overstay route.

The wife is with me in hotel so she's ringing around trying to sort things out with doctors, medical staff and hotel staff.

You have to apply for the extension based on medical reasons BEFORE your stamp runs out. You can't apply for it once you go on overstay.

@Gerald *******
Just calculating:

Stay runs until 19, you wanted to convert into Non Immigrant O, Quarantine is 10 days, but you need at least 15 days left on your stay for conversion.

You had to apply before 4 Feb, means before you went into quarantine?

@Gerald *******
if you haven't taken your 'regular' 30 day extension you can get off that tourist visa entry, take that, OR the 60 day covid extension, OR the unable to travel due to medical reasons <- which is the one that you should see if the hopital/hospitel staff can get for you
Ellie *******
@Chris ******
yes, if your medical facility can support you for that

@Robert ******
asking in case of positive test upon departure...so it's possible to get a medical extension if Covid quarantine pushes you past your exit date?
