What should I do if my retirement visa is expiring and I can't return to Thailand due to flight restrictions?

I am a South African-Burmese holding retirement multiple entry visa. I was working for the South African Health Dept and retired. My retirement visa will be expired on 15 July. Unfortunately, Thailand does still not allow international flight. Can someone give me a suggestion?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A South African-Burmese individual holding a retirement visa is seeking advice as their visa expires on July 15, and international flights to Thailand are still not operational. Responses indicate that an amnesty for foreigners in Thailand extends until July 31, but it does not apply to those currently outside the country. They should consider options for obtaining a new visa from a Thai consulate or applying for a 90-day NON-O visa upon eventual return to Thailand.

okay, this is how it works

The amnesty they have until July 31st is for people INSIDE the country right now and doesn't have anything to do with you applying for your new year retirement extension.

IF you are outside the country and you can't get back before your extension expires you're done, <- meaning that extension expires and you hav no extension anymore.

You would need to start all over from scratch, either getting a new visa from a thai consulate BEFORE you come here or comin' here and then applying for the 90 day non-O visa and year extension once you get back.

One last time the amnesty does NOT affect people who are out of the country at this time

If you can meet the requirements you should be able to get a 1yr extension but it would require money already in the bank (800k 2 months prior to the date of application).

If you are not in Thailand at the moment you will need to apply for a new Visa and I dint think any embassies are issuing at this time. Looks like you will have to wait several months to return to Thailand I'm afraid.

Thank you for your message. It means although my visa will expire on 15 July because of the amnesty no penalty until 31 July. But the problem is let say...an international flight will resume on 1 August. Then I should apply or renew my retirement visa at Thai Embassy in South Africa before entering into Thailand.
