I failed to maintain my balance above 800k, and my retirement visa expires on April 4. With my balance now below 400k, do I have to start the visa application process anew?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about their inability to maintain the required bank balance for their retirement visa in Thailand, which is set to expire soon. Given that their balance has fallen below the mandatory requirement, it is likely they need to start the visa application process anew. Community comments emphasize the importance of either replenishing the bank balance or demonstrating a steady income transfer from abroad to meet the immigration requirements. Recommendations include consulting with the immigration office or an agent for guidance on possible options, like switching to a different visa type or presenting alternative proof of income.

A cheap wedding with a local and they only requires 400 on account, otherwise it is to start over. Normally, no mercy.
Carlos *********
Talk to an agent. They could maybe help you out.

I am real. I set this FB account up just for things like this when I arrived in Thailand.

Your ok if you’re bringing in 65k a month for 12 months but if your on a non-o extension based on being over 50 you need 800k for two full months before you apply and not under 400k for 7 months
Ron *******
This may be a whole lot worse.

You agreed to keep that balance above the 400,000 for THIS year's extension which you already have.

Don't be surprised if they deem you to be now on overstay.

agree, Maneerat the best, 12,500 baht (if you're near Pattaya)
John **********
I suspect you will have to leave the country and come back in as a tourist then go through the process of getting a new non-o visa followed by an extension of stay

Have you been sending at least 65K THB each month from outside of TL and does your bank book or bank statement reflect that each monthly deposit came from outside of TL? If yes, you may be able to switch from the 800K method to the 65K monthly deposit method or possibly a combination of the two, depending on which immigration office you use. If you've been sending the 65K go talk to the retirement desk at immigration.

@Rod *********
if you manage to top up again fast at least you for fill the main requirement. So either they’ll accept or apply directly for a non O again.

Do you have another bank account with a balance that brings you over the 400k/800k? if not then yes start again and see an agent
Michael **************
What about if you can prove 65k coming in from your government
Graham ******
@Michael *************
but the OP has dropped below the required 400k which is a condition for the current extension so cannot switch for the next year.
Kace *******
@Michael *************
how is that done, please. i have a u.s. military pension. cambodia embassy , where i live now said they don’t authenticate them and every thailand expat says they don’t either.
Frank *****************
@Michael *************
There is only some few ambassies that are alowed to do that.
Jan ******************
@Michael *************
some embassy don’t offer this service
Kace *******
@Jan *****************
thanks. i believe i can save the 800k in less than 9 months from September,which is when my year condo contract is fulfilled. i love the variety of thailand.
Jan ******************
@Kace ******

@Jan *****************
true. Is a letter from government office acceptable. Like USA social security will provide a letter showing your income
Jan ******************
@Michael *************
Only if you appply for a Non O or a Non O-A at home. Our Norwegian and some other embassies offer this service, for others is sadly no way around the 800K in bank for your first extension, but as this is not his first extension and option could be to try to show proof of 65K transferred over sea into your his bank every month for a year. That’s the way most people gets their second extension if the can meet the economic requirement. But I guess he anyway needs to apply for a Non O from scratch.
Kace *******
@Jan *****************
also if i have my u.s. bank statements of considerably over their minimum for regular payments and a statement from american veterans administration authorizing my lifelong pension, but i don’t have an embassy notarized statement of accuracy, since they don’t do that, am i still required to keep $23,000 in a thai bank unable to access? and is my money at risk if they decide against me?
Jan ******************
@Kace ******
You can also apply for a year Non O-A visa with your bank statements at home and a health insurance. This gives you one year first with possibility to stay until two years in Thailand with one boarder crossing and extension of your health insurance.
Kace *******
@Jan *****************
for anything serious and or super expensive medically i would one way fly to honolulu veterans hospital for free 100% medical dental vision even psychiatric or sex change should i decide to switch teams. so i would probably want a small health care package. an education visa is a possibility as i love taking classes and going to school. is a large 800k deposit also required for an EDUCATION visa? because that would give me time to save up the big 800K
Jan ******************
@Kace ******
No, 800K it’s not required for the ED visa and you can also apply for a six months multiple entries tourist visa with your income at home (METV). This gives you possibility for stay up to nine months in Thailand, with two boarder crossings and three local extensions in Thailand. You can also apply for a Non O later when you’re in Thailand, but then you’ll need proof of 800K when you apply. (Sad your embassy doesn’t provide this service as our norwegian and several others do. For people married to a thai citizen the requirement is half; 400K in bank or 40K a month).
Jan ******************
@Kace ******
You can apply for a 90 days non O visa at home before you leave and use your bank statement at home to proof your income. When you apply for your first year extension of stay after 90 days there’s no (legal) way around the 800K in a thai bank if you’re embassy doesn’t provide you a letter to verify your income. The formal requirement is that you keep the money in your bank two months prior and three months after your extension is issued and for your next extension of stay you can use your bank to proof your income the alternative way with minimum 65K a month transferred over sea for the last 12 months. (It can also be a combination income/bank in total 800K a year.)
Kace *******
@Jan *****************
does education visa require a large deposit as well?
Jan ******************
@Kace ******
No, just the normal requirements but a health insurance is also required.
Jim ***********
Why when know rules ?
Andy ********
Yes, you need to top up your bank account and season the funds again in the normal way.
Jan ******************
@Andy *******
but he was below 400k that’s the point
Andy ********
@Jan *****************
yes, so he needs to start the process again which is what he asked.
Jim ***********
@Jan *****************
exactly visa expires 4 April season funds 3 months before ie 4 January at latest. He's totally ignored rules so needs start again. Can't educate stooooopid . Even dropped below 400k. Thailand ain't for everyone.
Frank *****************
@Jim **********
I would not use the same word, but if someone doesn’t have the funds you need to live in Thailand then just go home. And when they end up in hospital and can’t pay the bill what can I say.
Jan ******************
@Jim **********
it’s two months but I also think he needs to start with a new Non O
Jim ***********
@Jan *****************
yes definitely start again or pay agent. Either way it's a costly mistake
Stuart *********
Go talk to your immigration office and see what they say but my guess is you’re back to square one.
