What should I do if my DTV visa has a typo in my passport number?

I had an approved DTV visa, which I applied for in Ho Chi Minh City. However, when I entered Thailand, immigration noticed that my DTV had a typo in the passport number, it didn’t match the number on my actual passport.

As a result, I was granted a tourist visa on arrival. The immigration officers at the airport were unsure how to resolve the issue.

Earlier today, I emailed the Thai embassy that issued the visa, and I’ve also scheduled an appointment with the Thai embassy in Bangkok later this week. I’m looking for any advice or information on how best to proceed.

My apologies, my previous post wasn’t clear. It’s been a hectic day. Thanks for the advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user entered Thailand with a DTV visa that had a typo in their passport number, leading to immigration issuing a tourist visa on arrival. They are seeking advice on resolving the issue. Responses clarify that the Thai embassy in Ho Chi Minh City should rectify the typo, as there are no Thai embassies within Thailand. The user plans to contact the embassy and has received suggestions on how to escalate the case.

There is a Thai Embassy in Bangkok? Why?
Jeremy ********
You might mean CW if in Bangkok
Frank **********
Thai Embassies only exist outside of Thailand. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs which oversees Thai Embassies is in Bangkok.

Your fault completely. You should have checked it. Twice.

No HCMCs fault entirely. They made the mistake.

Failure to pick up the mistake? Well how often have you written something and not realised you made a typo or transposed numbers without realising. Even after reading 3 or 4 times.

Anyone applying for a DTV will generally be ecstatic when they get it. They would very rarely go over it with a fine tooth comb, especially for a transposed passport number.

Or are you so perfect that you would never miss something like that?

FFS.

check with United Artists, maybe you fit their need for the next "Superman" act

I have never written something and not realised I made a typo or transposed numbers without realising. Even after reading 3 or 4 times. Define perfect, for fux sake.

"I was granted a tourist visa on arrival" . . . . . . no, you, as U.S. citizen, weren't granted any visa. You got stamped in for a 60-days stay permit on a visa-exempt entry

Hope you used an eye catchy subject line in the email such as

URGENT DTV XYZ123 ISSUED WITH PASSPORT NUMBER ERROR

ah, thank you for clarifying. There was so much misinterpretation, also from my side, I am sorry for this. And normally only the HCMC Royal Thai General Consulate can fix this issue. There is no Thai embassy inside Thailand, so did you schedule an appointment with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok? The MfA in Bangkok normally does not get involved in embassy & consulate matters, although you could give it a try in case you are staying in Bangkok anyways

Department of Consular Affairs, it's what my girl said to do go. I will go since I already have the appointment. However worst case I am in the same situation. I will stay in Bangkok my whole 60 days. I do not feel like going straight back to Vietnam.

ah, yes, the Department of Consular Affairs in the Chaeng Watthana Road is a subsidy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They might be able to help, establish a direct contact to the HCMC Consulate and get them to re-issue the DTV .Good Luck !

Ok. Thanks for the clarification. This is something only HCMC can fix. They issued the DTV.

Normally errors on your part will mean your visa is denied, but this is an error on their part and they should fix it.

Immigration did the right thing - there’s nothing else they could do.

There is no Thai embassy in Bangkok. Not sure if you are meaning your embassy, but even if so there’s nothing they could do.

Thanks. I did Email the HCMC embassy this afternoon. I wasn't expecting a response immediately. So I will just wait for a response.

so you're now in on visa exempt? So no visa, but can stay 60 days and can extend by 30. That should give you time to get DTV corrected if it was their mistake.
