Can I get my 60-day tourist visa stamped at an immigration office if I only received a 30-day stamp upon entry into Thailand?

I don’t understand what happened I entered in bangkok and did present the Tourist visa to the immigration officer in Bangkok upon my arrival and I assumed she stamped my passport for the 60 days. I know I should have checked the stamp but I was so tired from my flight that was delayed and I had been traveling over 40 hours and didn’t realize she only gave me 30 days stamp until a few days later. I would like to know if I can have my passport stamped for the 60 days granted on the visa if I go to a immigration office or do I have to leave Thailand to use my 60 day visa that was granted. I do not know if she actually used the Visa or not.

Thank you for your help and advice.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster mistakenly received a 30-day stamp instead of the 60-day duration granted by their tourist visa upon entering Thailand. They are seeking advice on whether they can have their passport corrected at an immigration office or if they must return to their port of entry. The community suggests going back to the airport for resolution, but there are mixed experiences shared, with some stating they had success correcting the issue at other immigration offices in Thailand. It's emphasized that checking the passport stamp upon entering is crucial to avoid such issues.

Go to a emigration office and see what they say.

Everything is sorted out, yes the visa was recorded in the computer but th IO only stamped for 30 days. Nakon Phanom immigration took care of it for me and very nice people working there. Lesson learned!

Hi im traveling to thailand for 41 days end of october. Ive been looking at single entry for 60 days visa. Is it possible to go over on 30 day visa and go to immigration office to extend my stay ?

I learned my lesson this time but now I’m in Nakon Phanom. I guess I’ll go to immigration office here and see if the visa is stated as used.

I learned the hard way going into Cambodia, bought a visa at the border, never checked my passport, tried to leave a few days later. Never stamped in $us200 bribe to get it stamped so I could leave. Always check the stamps.
Stephen *******
Does the visa have "Used" stamp on it?

@Stephen ******
No stamp on the visa because I only showed it on my phon. It is a E Visa.
Rob *******
so with the evisa they just stamp your passport ? i know pre covid the visa was attached in the passport & they stamped that. do you just show them a print/email & then stamp your passport
Ricky ******
I have entered with a 60 day TR 3 times (with a paper print of the visa) and each time I carefully check what they have stamped before I move away from the immigration counter.
David **********
This happened to me and I went to immigration in Udon Thani and they updated the date consistent with the visa and there was no charge.
Graham ******
Don't exit and try to re-enter to activate your Visa as it may already be in the system as used and you got a 30 day stamp not the 60 that may already be in the system. You need to know if your Visa is still valid before doing this which can be done at Immigration or the airport.
Will ************
You go back to your entry point into Thailand and they will sort it. Any Evisa needs ro be printed to be certain
Mark ********
There's also stamped/sticker visas i know a few who have not double checked
Wayne **********
This happened to me and when I was leaving he said I overstayed so I showed them the visa and they just updated the stamp on arrival.

But worth going for an extension and they will probably tell you that you have 60 days and can extend to 90 days
Andrew *******
When we arrived, the airport immigration officer gave us 59 days - I assume because he counted wrong when he set his stamps that day. We have since got a 30 day extension but it is from day 59 so only 89 days total. Luckily we are leaving on day 88 so it doesn’t matter but it could have been a bigger problem…check your date stamp folks !!
Bob **********
@Andrew ******
the day you arrive is 1 day regardless what time you enter
Brett **********
@Andrew ******
your arrival day is day one
Mitchell *******
Yup. If they stamp you in at 11:55pm, you have 5 minutes in Thailand on day 1.
Bob **********
Use your 30 days extend it for 30 more cross the border and come back use the visa then and you can extend that for 30 more Thailand is your oyster😎😎😎
Marc *******
From Personal Experience I can tell you that is Important what's in the computer. Doesnt matter what's the stamp in the passport says.
Mike ********
When I entered with a 60 day TR Evisa I mislaid the printed copy of it at immigration so showed pdf on my phone and got stamped in for 60 days,.
JJ ********
he will tell you that it is up to you to check the validity of the stamp if this is the case you will make an extension of 30 days in an immigration
Jay ****
Same experience go back they will void this one one give you the required one,be respectful and polite when you arrive, prepare 1900 baht
Jeffrey *********
@Jay ***
1900 is the fee for an extension - correcting an error by the airport immigration officer is free.
Jay ****
@Jeffrey ********
I paid nothing,just in case because policies change
Mark ********
Always present your passport opened at visa page! It’s not up to io to find it! This happens more than you realize!😎🙏
Andreas *********
@Mark *******
there are no visa stickers in your passport if it got issued by the online E-visa system. It's a pdf document. You need to present the printed document if you want to get stamped in on it
Henrik *****
If to far, inconvinient or expensive to go back, then get a 30 day extension at the nearest immigration office 1900 baht.
Henrik ****
@Henrik ****
, any IM will fix it (as long as they do not refer you to your "own" IM).
Henrik *****
That comment should rather be placed to those who say OP’s only option is to go back to the point of entry.

I suggest an alternative solution, if going back to point of entry is to inconvenient.
Daniel ********
I only got 30 days and extended it with immigration for a further 30
Stefan ****
@Daniel *******
you entered with no visa. While OP entered with visa +mistake
Daniel ********
@Stefan ***
ah I see.
Charles ********
To correct it you must go back to port of entry (the airport you arrived at) they can't fix at any other port or immigration office.

If your tourist visa isn't used, then you could exit and reenter on it to extend your total time.but if it's used, you would need to go have it fixed or exit before your current stamp.
Delvonte ********
@Charles *******
this is not correct because this happened to me and they were able to fix it at the immigration office knowing that it was the error of the person who stamped me in. Maybe there are some offices that are reluctant to do it but you can definitely get it done in Bangkok.
Lindsey **********
@Delvonte *******
you were lucky

Our local immigration office will not do it for us

They send us back to the port of entry

Never, ever assume anything especially in a foreign country.
Wayne ******
@Frank *********
.....and assume even less in your country of origin

@Fr***

@Darlene ********
it helps for anything else he may do while in Thailand dealing with the government or even a bank.
Stephen *********
@Darlene ********
And your comment helped how?
Darlene *********
@Stephen ********
Hopefully my comment helped Frank and you to understand that the OP asked a specific question. I didn't address the OP. Understand? 🤭
Larry ********
That happened to me in Nepal. Go back and they will fix it
Steven ***************
Go back to the airport or an imm office and they'll fix it.
